Masterchef UK (Amateurs)

I'm not a big fan of the professional kitchen bits either. I get why they do it to get them used to that environment and test how they perform, but it's not all that exciting to watch as no professional chef would let it fall apart anyway.

I do love the cook for firefighters/army etc challenges. That's our of my favourites. They have to create menus and cook on a mass scale.

It actually was better during the pandemic as they had to cut out the professional kitchens bit. Just had more cook offs in the studio which are always far more entertaining.
I don't mind the 'cooking for 400 firemen in half an hour' challenges so much..

Watching last night's I just love Jack. He seems so gentle and relaxed. Also Chariya and the Indian man whose name I have forgotten. They all seem really good.

Anurag? He’s great, hope he keeps going

The professional kitchen challenge drove me mad, the one where they cookie cluttered the fried egg. The waste!

I think Terri is the weakest now. I like her but she never seems to produce a fault free dish.
A very strong final set of contestants though. Hard to predict who will win. Chariya and Anurag have not put a foot wrong - but I really love Jack. He seems so gentle and doesn't seem to take it all too seriously.

I’m going to spoiler my thoughts because I know not everyone is able to watch straight away:

I will be hugely surprised if Chariya doesn’t win it. I’m personally not a fan, I find her a bit cocky with faux surprise but when you listen to what she actually says it’s clear she thinks she’s brilliant (which she may be - I’m not tasting her food!)

I liked Jack and was sad to see him go. I thought his dish had more impact than Anurag’s which looked nothing like an optical illusion - it looked like île flottante with a sugar work basket filled chocolates, and a piped rose. I also think his so bad it’s good task was weak - carrot is well trod ground now for use in desserts or carrot cake would not be so prevalent. His Indian food looks sublime but I think he is weak outside of it.

Terri does seem like she’ll be next. She’s the least consistent in terms of those left.

Finally glad that Vanessa and Robin have gone. She was just annoying and he kept minimising mistakes made.

I’m rooting for Omar because I really like his incentives.

Oh dear Terry your chips let you down. Mind you never have I looked at chips and thought ' they could be all the same size'

Very noticeable in the restaurant that Gregggg and John's bits were filmed separately. Not one wide shot of them together - just headshots pretending to talk to each other. All a bit odd.
Mind you it was hard to follow as my OH was shouting so much about the tiny portions and his constant mantra 'where's the f*cking spud?'

I kind of got bored this last week or so of it. But I think I always find the finals more boring in terms of challenges.

Just looked up the winner and I'm pleased, probably my favourite of them

I don’t find the cooking in restaurants challenges very interesting - Michelin starred or not. I can’t help but feel it’s more about following a recipe and process (and attention to detail) rather than testing creativity, style, innate ability etc.

Yes the guests/judges are hardly going to say the concept and taste of the dish is terrible if it the brainchild of the celebrity chef.
