My eldest has adhd quite severe. He doesn't get bullied. He's very popular. Just a little too much for his friends sometimes with his amount of energy. If the topic or convoy isn't something he's interested in, he won't hold it well. Very much like what's his face from last night.

Adhd and autism isn't a bad thing and it needs to stop being used as a sob story. duck offfffff

That's crazy since he didn't learn until college

Not going to triangulate myself but I do have connections to the deaf community.
It isn't unusual for a deaf person to not know British Sign Language (BSL)
BSL is a completely different language to English and if this lad grew up in a hearing family and went to a mainstream school without learning BSL then it isn't strange that he doesn't/didn't understand it.
If he has a hearing aid then he has partial hearing. He is almost certainly self taught in lip reading. He probably grew up learning his own coping mechanisms for dealing with a hearing world.

**I hope my above post wasn't patronising. I just meant it to be helpful. I really hope this lad helps to break down some boundaries with knowledge about the deaf community xx
