I saw someone leave a comment on her TikTok that they want her to do their English homework.

That’s a sure fire way to get a low mark with feedback that it’s overwrought and if it was a drinking game for the word spectacular all lessons would be off for a week.

I’m hoping the next phase of their British countryside conquest is they pick up a book by a British author and actually learn a few new words.

I mean if yo7 looked ou5 your window at this would you squeal with pleasure? And as an influencer? How is this so, other than the comedy factor?

How on earth can she assume Megs is telling the truth? Is she that dumb?

Black Country is one of my favourite accents, along with NE Scotland……both these are so under represented in media
All the money thats being spent and plants/building material etc thats being wasted and it looks worse. Those brown trees are just ridiculous. I assume they will go green in summer. BUT if they look like this brown for most of the year in the UK, why would you plant them. I actually think whoever has done their garden has taken the micky out of them, its just ridiculous.

I think we also have a bit of Scandinavian thrown in for good measure too
That is where the stew came in. Any ways we are brilliant xx

If you travel twenty miles in England, the accent changes and so has their name for a bread roll😄

There’s an interesting guy from Cumbria called Simon Roper on YouTube who covers the history of the language and dialects.
I literally have to travel a mile and the accent is different.

Whys he dressed like a grandad from the 50s
He is a laughing stock.

First she says that they were burning a lot of wood in the fire place because of the cold and that's why the decoration on the top had to be replaced/refreshed, and later she says that they haven't used the fireplace in weeks because they don't have any wood. Which is it then, Lydia?

Jeez I’ve been missing in action this week because my beautiful mother in law of 37 years is dying so I missed lydls vlog on her father. I hope he recovers quickly. I am shocked at her using his suffering to pull in the punters but I should expect no less from her. For all of the harrowing stories of my lovely fellow tattlers who are going through it just now you have my deepest sympathies and love. I wish you all, the strength to get through what you are all going through. Love and god bless❤️❤️❤️

I have another British question. How do y’all have so many accents. While I can appreciate the various factors that can influence regional dialects, it’s a pretty small area land wise to see so much diversity (that doesn’t seem to be solely influenced by the influx of non-English speakers). By comparison, 11 US states are larger than the UK and even those states may have a couple of regional accents, not dozens. So interesting. Any linguistics scholars able to comment?

Britain is a small landmass but possibly one that has seen the most invasions in Europe. Celtic tribes (which were occupying most of Western Europe in the Iron Age), the Roman Empire invading part of Britannia. Then the Anglo-Saxons making a move when the Roman Empire collapsed, pushing Romano-Celtic Britons to the West (Wales / Cornwall) and establishing small kingdoms which would later become unified as “England”. Norse raiders / settlers (Vikings) adding to the mix in the meantime (establish the Danelaw in the East. And the last big invasion known to Britain: the Norman invasion in 1066 which marks the end of the Viking Age. The Normans themselves being former Danish Vikings who were given a piece of land by the Franks in Northern Frankia (France) which we call “Normandie”. By 1066 the Normans mostly spoke old French / had assimilated (hence why some old British bylaws from Norman rule times are still written in old French). So imagine a small land where Celtic dialects mixed with Latin, Anglo-Saxon, Old Norse and French to name but a few (not taking into account variants and affects within one given group). It’s quite an oversimplification of course. I am in no way a linguist so can’t really weigh-in on how languages truly evolve and how regional accents form, let alone full on dialects. Just a history nerd lol

okay, it’ll take my coat now and leave 🙃😅

Not gonna lie, kind of hoping Claire Chanelle gets this one for Xmas 🤭

maybe she isn’t as close to her dad as she’s let on?
I so agree. Why do we think she’s close to her dad? I find it odd that she is given what we know of her upbringing. To me the association is often brought up because he is the easiest connection to some form of money, and I just feel she talks about him or raises him in an awkward way always to plant another point eg about “let me tell you about the flats my family own”. What has that got to do with anything?? And your family? Your father has remarried, the flats are in his Company’s name if they are at all. Lydia is not a director of that company I’m sure because nobody would be stupid enough to appoint a bimbo daft enough to go up to tenants to say what she said as a officer of a company. If he owns it he would also have a property manager who will not stand for bleeping stupid behaviour like that, which is why the story doesn’t even compute for me.

She often likes to name drop items or status related things, and somehow I think her putting this out there is a way for her to show people she’s of a decent class. She is not. To me her father may have some meaning to her but the mention of him is always done in a way that uses him as a prop or means to further her pretension of grandeur.

She thinks money equals class (I’m talking about the British class system). That alone tells you how she is NOT from some upper crust background. It is not uncommon for the landed titled gentry to not have liquid wealth anymore. They have LAND, titles, connections, obligations, maybe sticks up their arses that come with a lot of other little things money can’t buy - none of which Lydia has even a hint of. Most of them have plenty connections, and with that come things like a brand name education and an awareness of British society she far from possesses.

She can pretend all she wants; her younger non Brit audience can believe what they wish but anyone who knows an iota about the classism of British society knows her accent is off, her background is far from what she weirdly aspires to, and nothing she acquires can or will ever change that.

I received the same email response

Me too. Which makes me think the ASA guidelines are a little unclear. Actually, I’m not totally surprised as I think Ali’s posts were way and tenuous as regards the guidelines. Lydia had hers altered a little so they wouldn’t bite as much… But anyway, whatever.

Does Lydia not realise how lazy her vlogs are ? Or does she think she's the hardest working influencer in the UK ? Or the world ?
Apologies for harping on this but her gig with The Savoy and her trip to Hamburg ...

Hannah Ricketts recently visited The Savoy for tea as part of her Vlogmas.
Magical !!! And Hannah, witness than 100k subscribers gets a high views. She puts in the work.
Lydia shows us ... Lydia  Nothing else.

I, as I'm sure many many others, love watching anything Christmassy at this time of the year ... advent calendars, decor, store visits, supermarkets, ANYTHING !!! Lyds could have dragged the Hamburg visit over 2 or 3 vlogs. Easy money for our tightwad. Carrie was there to film if Lyds was too drunk to do so herself.
Coincidentally these pics of Christmas in Germany came up on my IG. It is absolutely STUNNING !!! She really is a lazy moo.

My untrained ear can not grasp the difference between her "old" vs her new accent, although everyone is commenting on it. I can discern a very stylized way of her speaking-slowly, carefully enunciating everything on her stories, "colouring" her voice overtly like she's voicing a documentary or something, but even the old accent sounds "posh" to me. Can someone tell me what some of the differences are and what they mean, without going into too much detail? I mean, is it kind of like she spoke Texan English before and now she's lost the country twang? (dumb parallel, I know...Please forgive me...)

I would imagine it’s hard to hear if you’re not hearing odd British accents all the time. My husband from London can’t hear the difference in northern accents and for a while, I couldn’t tell the difference with some London regional accent.

With Lydia, not only is the way she’s slowed down and over exaggerates certain words, but the accent is heard with words like ‘same’ for example. Her old accent would pronounce it saime with a more ‘eye’ sound in the middle. Now she would say sehym, with a ‘ehh’ sound. (Hard to write, easier to say!)

or the classic McDonald’s used to be pronounced MacDonowds where now it would be MucDonalds with each letter pronounced properly. Or With would be Wiv. You hear it with Ali, replacing L’s with W’s and ‘th’ with ‘v’.

She never had a strong accent before but you could certainly hear an London area accent. Now it sounds like a put on fake posh voice that she assumes people can’t hear through!

Up north where I am, the biggest indicator of people trying to talk more ‘posh’ is over enunciating the last letter of a word. So take ‘stunning’ they would say ‘stunninguh’ and really pronounce that G. Vic in the frow does this a lot. She’s not trying to lose her accent like Lydia, but tries to not sound so broad with the accent. She always over emphasis ‘amazinguh’ ‘stunninguh’ etc.

Gosh what a miserable house it is, no festive cheer in that upside down bung with Ms sour face. Apart from that pullman trip (if she did pay) she hasn't put her hand in her pocket to do anything festive. Josie's has been to more places from her birthday advent calender from Charlie than Lydia has done all year!

How embarrassing she actually is!

I was expecting the balustrades area to look more “rustic”. I get why they’ve used glass but it lacks something horizontal for balance and still looks modern 🤷🏻‍♀️

So, which bits of the media reporting about Savoygate were wrong? She has the nerve to patronise us explaining that the media use click bait and she can empathise with M&H. What a hypocrite, she’s an expert on that!

Ali in that dressing gown😬

Stunning images, I always thought she was lazy when she was reviewing clothing or whatever it is called that she does with the clothing. Especially al that Intimissimi stuff she gets sent.

I cannot beleive that she is again a victim and the media is again her and she is comparing herself to Meghan M.
I don’t want to start to talk about Meghan M , but I would like to say that the media is totally right about lydiot. She is using savoy to get a heater as hers is not working. How we narcissistic. She was bullying her hair dresser etc .

shehas an asshole behavior . Full stop
