A lot of young white people growing up in east london/Essex have this accent - it’s called MLE. It’s overtaken standard Estuary and Cockney accents. It’s about young people assimilating with the community around them. I’ve lived in this area my whole life and really notice it with younger people, especially boys. I don’t pass judgment on it, as it’s just something that’s happening naturally - organic linguistics. I agree it’s cringe when heard in isolation.

Joey lives a couple of miles from me, and was born in town.

They must all belong to the same agency of tragic fame thirsty people, and go to the same terrible bars and clubs.

That is really interesting and makes sense but I had no idea. I guess because he’s not that young it jarrs.

I’m cynical so I think maybe Josh doesn’t even like Mimii that much but he knows she’s popular

Definitely and if I was Mimii I would be thinking that. The new ones who come in definitely tell them who’s popular on the outside! Maybe that was the code words the girls were talking in that Harriet mentioned and the Producers told them off about?!

Just caught up on last night and for me Joey is now up with there in my top 3 worst people that’s ever appeared on Love Island.

Grace was absolutely spot on saying Joey couldn’t get over the fact she’s ok with not being with him. His ego is so self-inflated it’s unreal, he was self projecting because he wants Grace to want him soo desperately. I think he’s a complete misogynist prick, he never lets the girls finish what they’re saying, patronised and gaslights them, is NEVER the one in the wrong and talks to them like their children. Such an unattractive, arrogant, self-absorbed man, I want him off my screen.

I wonder if Joey is the way he is because of what he’s been through.
Losing his mum so young, the youngest in his family.
Maybe they babied him and it’s given him an ego or something
I don’t doubt that had a huge negative impact on his life and it’s awful he experienced that, but he’s 33, I don’t think it should excuse how he’s acting on Love Island.
If it still affects the way he interacts with women, he should be in therapy to address it.

He didn’t learn much from the counselling he had in his documentary then.

He did say he sabotages relationships. Because he loved his Mum and she used to say she loved him but then left him he thinks his girlfriends will leave him so he always messes up with women and hurts them because he’s afraid to love them as they will leave him.

Tbh, I don’t know why Grace even rekindled things with him the minute she came into the Villa. She admitted he had cut it off with her previously and been really cold with her yet she was kissing him the first night and never gave him tit about their past and how he treated her. Another MUG.

I know Mimi is annoying but I’m not overly convinced about Josh either, he went straight for her knowing she was popular and people would like her after Casa. It’s the whole Greg O’Shea and Amber storyline all over everyone thought he was a sweetheart and loved him and he dumped her about 2 weeks after winning 😂

Yes very possibly the case regarding Josh, but not surprising. So peed off with all the scripting and bad acting I actually wouldn’t mind if Grace paired up with Josh (I do see a spark there); Mimiii and Ayo got back together ending Mimii’s chances of a win and Reuben and Jessica paired up, I think they’re suited. And hoping against hope can Cairan and Nicole have an almighty (genuine) row which gets shown, they did this last year for Elly and Ty who thereafter did not take the prize.. [the prize got left in a bin outside the villa and Jess picked it up on her way in this year].. 😉

Grace is my new favourite.. and I’ve always liked Matilda but she loses points for being with Sean. I like that Grace hasn’t gotten into any solid couples but has instead lived her best life and made a mark. It’s much better than Uma/Mimii chasing around after men who aren’t that into them or Matilda who’s went for and is sticking with Sean because she clearly thinks he’s popular. Or Jess who was mostly single like Grace but an obnoxious head about it.
She’s been my favourite all along 😌

Just watched yesterday's episode as I chose football over LI yesterday (and so glad I did). Mimii just confirmed when speaking to Nicole that her and Ayo will get back together

Joey is narcissistic. His manner of speaking to others is a telltale sign of that. He gaslights people, the way he did when he pulled Grace for a chat - totally ignored what she said and spoke over her all the time to the point that she lost the thread of what she was trying to say. I've been married to a man like that and that is exactly how they work - talks around you in circles until you end up being the one at fault for everything. You could see how that conversation went from one thing to smth entirely different in the end. The fact that he didn't start his conversation with an apology to Grace told me everything. And Grace had been half expecting an apology too, hence why she asked - is that all you have to say? Absolute asshole. Hate that guy. Jessy is stupid for sticking with him.. he can't stand that there is a woman who doesn't want him. When he said to Grace that he's with Jessy now, she was okay with it and that eats him from inside. He would've loved for Grace to fight for him, to argue with Jessy and call her a witch etc., but instead they became friends and he can't stand that..

So sorry to hear of your experience, hope life is better for you now. Joey Essex is nothing but a disgrace, the fact that he displays coercive control behaviour in full view of a TV camera says it all.

The most obvious example of this was Craig in series 3. He wouldn’t leave Camilla alone
