Just here to say that joey’s blaccent gives me the absolute ick. It gets stronger when he is speaking to someone of colour. Makes me cringe to my bones.

A lot of young white people growing up in east london/Essex have this accent - it’s called MLE. It’s overtaken standard Estuary and Cockney accents. It’s about young people assimilating with the community around them. I’ve lived in this area my whole life and really notice it with younger people, especially boys. I don’t pass judgment on it, as it’s just something that’s happening naturally - organic linguistics. I agree it’s cringe when heard in isolation.
