The reason I disagree with “be kind” being thrown around when yet another of these people make a horrendous and/or cruel decision, on any reality tv show, is that reality tv has been around for almost 20 years. People know the drill, even before social media blew up the papers and gossip magazines were full of negative comments about Paris & Nicole, the Jersey Shore cast, Big Brother contestants etc.
The contestants nowadays are now even more media savvy due to the growth of influencer culture - many on Love Island have a significant following already and make the majority of their income via social media.
personally I would not open myself up to the public for millions of people to comment on my behaviour, personality, and looks as I know I am not a strong enough person to deal with it. Reality TV cast members have chosen or been lucky enough to have been offered, an “easy money” route, and rightly or wrongly, have taken it. They, along with their families, have seen these shows and know the sort of comments made about previous contestants and should be expecting it - out of millions of viewers you cannot expect every single one to see you positively and agree wholeheartedly with every aspect of your behaviour.
Threatening to harm someone or their loved ones is obviously very different, but commenting on behaviour that we have seen with our own eyes is fair game imo.
anyway thank you for coming to my TED talk and apologies to those who hate the long comments on here
