But just to make it clear ... I was a Mum at 19 through choice. I don't resent anyone around me for making me grow up too fast.
I have two beautiful, well mannered children who are doing so well in school. I never felt like I missed out on anything.
My parents didn't let me just date anyone. I fell in love. He got very very ill and sadly things didn't turn out great. Not everybody who is a young parent is unhappy, sleeping around or missing out. So please let's not make that assumption.
Of course at nearly 36 I know more things now than I did at 19. But I knew the basics. I knew how to handle money, keep a house and grow up because I wanted to.
So getting it back on topic to Love island because it shouldn't be a debate about if 19 year old knows their own mind or not.... I think Gemma is perfectly mature enough to be on the show. Interestingly enough, my daughter is not a mature 16 year old at all. She's a homebody, not had a relationship as of yet and is just a different girl to what I was. I can't imagine her being as mature as Gemma at 19 because she's different in other ways. She's all about school and what career she wants and likes to watch season's of a Netflix show all at once (which is mature in a different way and obviously what I would rather for her!) My niece who is also the same age has been in a 2 year relationship with a guy her age and had a part time job since 14 and goes to house parties every Friday and Saturday. But it just goes to show...EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT.
Let's not judge.
