like sure, dress Pearl up on world book day as Minnie Mouse if that's her character of choice to dress up as for school, because technically she does feature as a character in books, but it's weird to get so defensive when she has actually created a post about world book day - a day which exists to celebrate books and literature and reading - and chosen to dress Pearl as a Disney character who originated as an animated character! it's odd to write a post about world book day, and not use dress Pearl in a costume based on a literary character - even a character who started out as being written into a story and has since been developed into a film or animated character, but to use a character that later became used in books simply because it's a Disney character thus recognisable and appealing to kids kinda defeats the point of the day. again, if Pearl wants to dress as Minnie on the day itself, that's totally her choice, but a post dedicated to world book day, it's hardly surprising people are sharing their opinions when she isn't promoting books/reading in the way the entire day is based on. it's not even as though she's been photographed holding the Minnie Mouse book she loves, which most kids in photos wearing their costumes tend to be holding the book their character is from, so it just looks like an opportunity to dress Pearl as her favourite Disney character - especially when she explains she bought it for Pearl to wear at Disney - and then share it under a #worldbookday guise.
ultimately, it's an #ad for a costume store that Louise has been paid to promote, and if she wanted to photograph Pearl in a Minnie costume, it would make far more sense to relate it to a Disney holiday than make a tenuous link to world book day and then get snarky when people understandbly question the fact that it's a cartoon character, not originally from literature. plus, given the current financial climate and so many families struggling to afford the basics, it's pretty crass to be putting pressure in parents to buy costumes for world book day, which cost from between £30 to £100 each, when the kid will likely wear it once or twice! she's just showing how out of touch she is advertising such expensive costumes when the majority of children will have costumes made predominantly on clothing they already own, with potentially an additional accessory or two, whether bought or homemade, with people generally making do with what they have or using the opportunity to do a bit of crafting with their kids, not spending an unnecessary fortune.
but really, i don't expect anything less from the woman who thinks it's totally possible for anyone to have the money to pay £3k + each year to have their house professionally decorated with tacky baubles at Christmas, simply by putting a bit of effort into budgeting.
