I’ve seen that before in the corporate world too, being called into a meeting and let go with immediate effect and not even allowed back to your desk. I think she has handled it well explaining it on her Instagram to put questions or rumours to bed straight away. She sounded a bit shaky, I’d say she’s v upset.
 
Absolutely appalling way to treat her and her team, not letting them do the final shows. Yet those dreadful less than mediocre pick me gals Doireann and Jennifer get to keep their shows??? Is there a brain cell working in RTÉ management at all???
Could not agree more, I'm so tired of the dumbing down of media to make room for the likes of Doireann and co. I actually take a lot of comfort in following and listening to Louise, particularly when it comes to parenting, she's one of the few who is totally honest about the tit days.
 
That’s a nice sentiment, but it’s not how the world works. If you get fired (which is essentially what happened here it seems), you don’t get told to back to your desk and continue on with your job...
I’d love to know more about the employment law on this. Is Ireland like the US?

Of course she won’t have found this out today, and there must have been negotiations but…in the UK at least you don’t get sacked and marched out same hour. There are performance improvement plans, or constructive dismissal - a process. Perhaps different in this media world but my fave DJ has just experienced the same and he announced 6 months ago.

And it shows a huge disregard for the listenership of that show. Listener numbers notwithstanding,

I doubt she is an employee, most of the presenters are contractors so employment law doesn’t apply to them. If that’s the case then her contact is probably being terminated and she is being paid her notice period. In the real world when being let go you’re often sent off on gardening leave and still being paid put your notice period but not working. If you’re job is dependent on passing exams while you work or some other criteria and you don’t fulfil that or get the minimum marks the company want you can be marched out the door that day. I’ve seen it happen.

The infamous “walk to the door” - extremely common in commercially sensitive roles in all industries. I’m no lawyer, but I do know Irish employment law is generally very favourable towards employees. There’s no way of knowing what her particular arrangements are with RTE (ie permanent employee V contractor), but I’m guessing there’s some sort of garden leave at play.
 
I feel for her on a human level but not on a professional level. I've been in a role and asked to leave with immediate effect when it clearly wasn't working out. It wasn't personal its just the nature of some roles. Your usually aware of all this when accepting employment in these fields.
I didn't listen to her show in the last few months it had become a bit of a talking circle for herself and a select few friends with all the same views and extremely politically correct.
I think there's a need for a more balanced view on every day topics and whether it's a male or female voice I couldn't care less I don't think its relevant
 
It’s absolutely relevant that she’s a female. Not because she deserves her job because she’s a woman but because there is huge inequity, particularly in entertainment in this country.

I think firing with immediate effect is super cruel. Even if it’s ratings, that doesn’t just happen overnight. Unless there was some huge misdemeanour it seems crazy.

But just because its happened before doesn’t make it right. She had a team all work for this weekend show which now doesn’t air. Unless she was being disciplined, I think she should have been given a grace period. Feels like an attempt to keep her quiet. i think she’s a moany minny by the way, but its cruel to escort anyone to the door
 
With a show planned, guests booked etc for this weekend it’s highly highly unusual in radio.

I’d assume there’s more to it, but regardless it’s not at all common.



It’s not uncommon to be asked to leave and not work out the required notice period. Employee is still paid as that’s the legal requirement but employers sometimes prefer to have that staff member off the premises
 
I agree it does look cruel but it's not really, in these situations your totally aware of what your signing up to from the beginning and it's just the nature of the work. The radio station has to protect itself and its advertisers etc as well.
I worked in a different field but when I was let go with immediate effect it wasn't done in a cruel or humiliating way its just par for the course really a meeting is arranged and your briefed on the logistics and numbers on why its not working and then its out the gap, your arse has hardly left the chair before it's filled and that's just business.
I've met the person who let me go in a social type situation with my current employment (where I am for many years since and it's just a much better fit) and he's a really nice guy who was just doing his job that he's paid to do.
I'm still not convinced gender makes a bit of difference to be honest, listnership figures and listener satisfaction are what matters not whether it's a male or female radio presenter just the best person for the job
