Is narcissism a choice?
Narcissism is not a choice. It develops in early childhood when a person's personality is forming. Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) comes from severe and long-term neglect, abuse, and hurt during upbringing. The neglect is so intense that the child creates an "alter ego" to protect themselves. This alter ego helps reduce the damage from the abuse, but emotionally, the child stays underdeveloped.

In their mind, narcissism saved them, making them feel "wonderful" and "successful."

I find it hard to agree with this analysis of a Narc. I've known a few in my time and always, every time, they have been indulged as a child, told that they are the most beautiful/good looking, cleverest and deserving precious creature to ever grace this planet. I also and absolutely do not think that Kipper 'never thought I was good looking or pretty,' line which she uses as an excuse for all this surgery which in reality is her desperately trying to fix the mess she has made of her face and body.

I agree with the first line of first paragraph then from 2nd paragraph onwards. The rest of first paragraph surprised me, as I had thought indulgence would help form NPD, but on flip side the forming of alter ego as a "shell" also makes sense but not in the case of KFP.
