Jeremy Kyle Show

Apparently a man killed himself because he failed a lie detector and was adamant he wasn’t lying. Resulted in his relationship ending.

ITV are already in the spotlight after two contestants from love island have taken their lives after love island. The show was trash I’m glad it’s gone. Poverty porn.
Awful. Those things are unreliable, if they weren’t they would be used by police, the government etc. There’s a reason why they don’t. But JK thinks they’re foolproof. twit.

I believe that love island now needs to be taken off air too. I was never a fan of JK nor am I a fan of Love Island but in my opinion it's double standards to get rid of one and not the other when both shows have had people commit suicide!

Exactly, whatever your opinions are about JK it's complete double standards! Itv have made a big show about this with JK to shift the spotlight away from Love Island, it's back in a couple of weeks and it's a big hit for the channel there is no way they will get rid of it suicide or not and that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Mine too! I've never liked love Island anyway, from what I understand it's all young, slim, fit people hooking up. Surely it must give the teens who watch it body issues?

Just googled Sophie and Mike. From what I understand their deaths aren't directly linked to Love Island. Sophie had health worries and debt and Mike was in debt too. Maybe this is the deciding factor why Love Island is still going ahead. The JK case is directly linked to the show, it is the cause of the poor guy taking his own life. Regardless, any suicide is sad and they all have to be in a deep dark place to carry it out, very sad.

I don't get why Love Island hasn't been taken off yet, especially since even celebs (I think Mario Falcone posted something about it) saying it should be/there's no aftercare for shows like that.

Definitely. They even showed plastic surgery ads during the breaks (I didn't watch it put people were posting that they did on social media) and were only stopped once there was backlash. Its also pretty telling that they only attempt to have one 'smart' person per season, like the doctor and the explosives woman. The rest all seem to have jobs like model, influencer etc. Not saying that they can't be valid jobs but its like 'ooh we better put a smart person in for the diversity'.

That is the difference, the JK suicide was a week after filming, the Love Island suicides were a couple of years + after they were on the show, and they just happened to be Love Island contestants, I don’t know about Sophie, but mike had done other reality TV post Love Island, so why is it not Celebs Go Dating or whatever shows he’s been on that as to blame for his suicide.

Love Island definitely has its problems no doubt about that. But the situations are not the same.

A family member of mine is autistic and went on the show and she got absolutely ripped into by the audience and Jeremy. All taking the piss out of her. If we knew about it we would of stopped her going

Oh no, that's so sad :( Was she on to discuss Autism? How inappropriate of Jeremy/the audience

Maybe I'm cynical but there's rumours that some new ITV exec didn't like Jeremy Kyle and used this as an excuse to cancel it. This sorta fits as to why love island will continue.
JK encourages the undeserving poor narrative, should have been cancelled years ago

👏 Exactly!! Love Island can't be used as a comparison because it wasn't connected to the suicides.

So sad about the man. Not sorry the show is ending though - absolutely rotten excuse for TV content. The odd occasion when I saw some gave me second hand stress.

I think the bigger picture has been somewhat lost with this. Suicide is what should be getting more attention. It's one of the biggest killers in the country, espically for adult males.

With just the amount of people in bad places they have on the show I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner. I didn't even know the show was still going - you'd need to have a lobotomy for ITV's daytime schedule.

Ot but I'm so sick of infuencers using the guy from love islands death as a sheild to say they shouldn't face criticism. So many still do even though they've never met the guy and have no idea why he ended his life. Most reports say it was down to debt and loss of his grandmother.

I agree, but I feel every time something like this happens, people pipe up about mental health all 'talk to someone, people care' for a week or so, then forget about it and the person who died. It happened with the Love Island suicides, Robin Williams, Keith Flint, Kate Spade. I think the only suicide where the media/fans still talk about it regularly is Chester Bennington, as his wife set up that foundation and is trying to raise awareness.

Jeremy Kyle is the most odious, slimiest and arrogant of creatures and I'm glad to see him knocked down a peg or two. Just unfortunate it's under these circumstances. How much despair that poor man must have felt to think that there was no other options other than to end his life. Even if the guy was at fault (cheating) it is not excusable the way Jeremy acts like a self righteous prick and tears into people and humiliates them for trashy tv and his own self satisfaction.

One of the things about love island is that quite a few people have said there’s no aftercare/input from itv once people have left, only the winners. Hopefully they will change that this year, as regardless of how far people get in the show, they’re essentially just exposing people into being a ‘celebrity’ at the drop of a hat and walking away from them. I’d imagine that JK was of a similar ilk, more than likely didn’t offer any help/support to the guests to help them deal with what’s happened on the show.
Comparatively, a few of the GBBO folk have said they got lots of support from BBC/channel 4 afterwards to help them manage the fame.

Reality tv as a whole is completely toxic. Jeremy Kyle was probably the worst and it’s a shame it took this to make people realise just how damaging it is. He’s a gross individual, much like Piers Morgan, who of course was out on twitter defending him. He’s another one that needs to go. It’s actually shameful that ITV continue to employ him.

Agreed, I wish Piers Morgan would do one. I think he goes off on one simply because he knows it gives him attention and will rile people up, like every time he complains about woman or vegan options. He's a professional troll. Katie Hopkins is another one. Thankfully I haven't heard much of her since she went bankrupt.

Also re: Jeremy Kyle's aftercare, I remember the only time he ever helped someone after the show was a woman who got bullied for her teeth, to the point she didn't want to leave her house. They only helped her because of the ripping she got on social media, so paid for her to get new teeth. Even then I think they only did it for the good press.

There was a screenshot I saw on facebook yesterday from his daughter saying that she was livid about what the press are saying about her dad's death and that Jeremy Kyle Show was not to blame in the slightest, she went on to say it was accidental overdose and that even so, regardless of cause of death, the JK show was the reason she was reunited with her dad and that they'd done so much for her dad and how grateful she was of the aftercare etc, she was calling the Daily Mirror scumbags. I had a nosy on the victim's facebook and he did seem very emotional prior to the show, years ago he posted something about depression which says he's not just succumbed to mental health issues all of a sudden imo.

And now there's this article floating around.. not looking good on his behalf.
