Does anyone know when fancy started to be used as an adjective over here because it’s definitely very American?
I’m quite old and remember old fashioned department stores having ‘Fancy Goods’ sections in the 60s and 70s. That’d be for stuff that wasn’t stationery or haberdashery and didn’t fit any other department. Things like doilies, paper napkins and paper plates would be deemed ‘fancy’.
