my Harold was talking about John Selwyn gummer this morning - for younger frauen, he was a Tory minister at the time & tried to feed his daughter a beefburger in front of the press to say beef was safe. This is only about the 4th weirdest coincidence this week too.
apparently a daughter of a friend of his did die of vcjd in 2007 - very sad, so many people who got it seem to have been really young

Is this Rachel Dolezal Jack?

it grates tho because she absolutely would wear that shirt, and buy it in every available colour!

also I know it's a photoshop of Rachel Dolezal, but I just see what I assume Weird Al looks like without really knowing who Weird Al is.
Rachel Dolezal,

Oh crikey- you've already said this!

HAVE I NO ORIGINALITY?

<weeps>

<whispers>

Am I . . . Jack . . . ? 😲

I don't want to put anyone off (I'm going to donate mine too, and definitely recommend people do!) but if you are considering it, its worth listening to the Binge podcast Cover Up: Body Snatchers about ensuring you do your research first into where you are donating it to. Especially if you are in the US.
Just throwing in my mitherings (pronounced mitherings) to agree with you.
Mr Moo and I have had several discussions about 'what happens next' and donating body to science is a popular thing that I applaud, HOWEVER...
it doesn't always mean what you think it means. I would love to have a future generation of doctors using my body to further their knowledge but being used as a cadaver in a medical school is a small percentage of what happens.
As @ThePickledCrab says above, do your research. You could end up in a body farm and that makes me shudder
Following is a dark humour take on what a body farm is.
a body farm is a place where dead bodies are put into the most grotesque situations to show law enforcement/forensics scientists what happens to victims who have been murdered. Kept in a suitcase? Yup, we got that covered. Put in a barrel after eyes have been removed? Again yup we can show you what that looks like. You fancy looking at what the British wildlife can do to a body after 5 days in a shallow grave? You need to pop down to the body farm!
Apologies for my grim humour, but this is the reality for 'donating your body to science ' can look like.

As a true crime fan, this appeals - not even lying.

This might be a consideration for posters in other countries, but there are no facilities like the ones you describe in the UK. Research into the decomposition of bodies is only done with animals here. Cadavers can't be exported either, so if you donate your body in the UK, it's a pretty safe bet that you'll end up in a medical school's dissection room. You also specify on the donation form if there is anything you don't want to be done. Apparently it's quite common for people to refuse to donate their eyes, even if they've signed off on virtually every other organ. One of my friends is an anatomy lecturer at Warwick and she showed me a blank sample consent form when I was curious about it.

Omg I just opened TikTok and a video about that famous portrait of hindley was the first thing i saw. But that was before your post appeared for me. Twilight Zone level stuff
Duh duh duh duh… creepy!

It's also a very deer-in-the-headlights look she's got on her face there. Not appealing in any way. Is it supposed to be?
Has she got the shutter control between her fingers? I’m guessing they aren’t some stolen haemorrhoids

My mum wanted to donate organs but was too ill at the end ie internal organs all very damaged and non-functional. However we were able to donate skin (I remembered her mentioning they use it for culturing temporary burn coverings) and her corneas. Had a lovely letter a few months later that two people had their sight restored from those.
That’s lovely it made such a difference. I’m down to donate anything that can be used, my eyes might not be the best part of me though.

“She’s the Rachel Dolezal of cookery” great thread title

That’s lovely. And apologies to you and your mum but I misread it as temporary bum coverings I blame the boogly skellington discussion

There once was a fud
Whose recipes were dud
T'was like chewing cud
She liked to pose in the scud
Because she felt she was a stud
Her tweets were crud
She cried over dire spud
Her tears made a flood
And puddles of mud
Spenny gifts were to be hud
Refunds were like drawing blood
She had no real pals or a bud
Her bestie is Elmer Fudd

That rhyme is really gud.

My uni had a medical school and a couple of the students lived in my residence.

They said that the lecturers were very clear about treating the cadavers respectfully, because these had been donated to educate the students and to advance research. The students were respectful almost all of the time, but there were always a few who did things like sneak a cigar into a mouth, to make the class laugh when the drape was removed. If the lecturers found out who did it, they would get a stern talking-to.
Re the body farm, there is something like that here, but they use pig cadavers. Apparently these deteriorate very similarly to human cadavers.
