I cam screenshot if from my copy of Tin Can Cook ebook I got from the library. 👍
There’s this gem in it too where her poor saintly mother doled out meagre rations of corned beef to the hordes of children which has led to Jack’s misty eyed memories.

"would melt disconcertingly" - wow just the word I want to associate with a food you're trying to get me to eat!

Wah! No offence taken here. Didn't mean to do a thread chaos. I've been skim reading so might have missed something from earlier but rest assured even if I felt something didn't come over well I'd take it the canal spirit it was intended in.
It's me doing the chaos and second guessing myself. I'm a sensitive soul, lol, seeing the Scottish dear hearts mentioning how annoying it is when Southerner's apply accents and stereotypes has been making me cringe. I also like to assign blame on myself, old childhood habit, so yeah, just wanted to put it out there that I was only jesting with love.

Stop it Vlad 🤭

Sorry if this is derailing but I really haven't looked closely at her food writing before. She's like a parody. You actually can make really nice things out of tins but she seems determined to throw together appalling glop no one would ever want to eat and claim it as some sort of clever hack?? Why? So that people will look at it and say "oh golly gosh, is that what the poors have to eat????"

or does she genuinely think "a large pot of this [not remotely barbecue-flavored substance] over a pile of mash" makes an excellent dinner? she reminds me of the American Food Network's Sandra Lee, always mixing together random prepared foods to make something else that no one actually asked for when she could've just made the Kraft Dinner and everyone would be happy.

I don't see the downfall of Jack Monroe (the brand) happening any time soon however many people share the AM blog.

Jack has built a pretty much inpenetrable forcefield of 'tags' to ensure that nobody can criticise her actions without being accused of attacking her personally. Transgender, lesbian, non binary, gender fluid, ADHD, autistic, disabled, recovering alcoholic, single parent and 3rd/4th generation immigrant (did I miss any out?). Whoever aims criticism at her will be accused of transphobia, homophobia, ableism etc. etc. etc.

The blue ticks who have supported her will be unwilling to publicy distance themselves as it would be admitting they promoted a grifter to their followers. If Nigella and co. think Jack is the poor underdog patron saint of the pov then why didn't they offer to be patrons? I'm sure Nigella could spare a few bob to help her mate out so she's not reduced to tin rattling on Twitter.

The mainstream media is unlikely to pick up on this for various reasons including the fact that Jack is boring news fodder.

Jack will survive the AM blog and will seek to profit from the situation whether that's a pity party or a paypal payment. Her victim mentality will be difficult to suppress on social media. Some squigs will stop donating to her tip jar, others will put extra in 'to sock it to the trolls' and try to get noticed by Jack.

The AM article will have raised questions for some people and cemented suspicions for others. I suspect the majority of people sharing the blog will, however, already have been aware of her grifty ways. It's good that it's out there though.

TL;DR - Jack will Gloria Gaynor it through the AM revelations and live to grift again.

just to say that i also retract my earlier praise for jeffrey. he started out making sense, but it did all go a bit weird

although tbh, when you're speaking after jack has just spoken, anyone's gonna sound like einstein in comparison

I'd probably still bake him a cake though 😏
I'd bake him a cake too but he lost me intellectually at the start when he said something along the lines of 'I'm from London, we don't have rats in London'. Eh??
