She reminds me of an old acquaintance who once said to me during a meal out with friends that her and her husband had £30 each a week that covered ALL ‘fun‘ stuff I.e a takeaways, nights out, clothes, hair cuts, gifts, days out with the kids etc. Maybe I’m privileged but we lived in a decent area at the time- her and her husband both worked, had a mortgage, I thought that was a ludicrously small amount of money to have per week for everything that isn’t a bill. I can blow a tenner stopping for a cheeky Costa coffee and a cake so £30 a week seemed madness
Anyways- long story short, at a later point she told us all that her and her husband were saving for a deposit on a bigger house (they wanted an extra bedroom but didn’t want to increase their mortgage when they moved), and were saving £1000 a month over 2 and a half years so that they could achieve this.
Meanwhile she whinged constantly that she was skint and couldn’t afford stuff, and was dreadful at paying her way. I was fuming because a few times I’d looked the other way when she’d blatantly not paid her share of something because I felt bad and didn’t want to highlight that she was on a really tight budget.
Meanwhile she’d been saving a grand a bloody month !!!
