So whilst we await the forensic pontifications of Telly Jack (though I agree with
@MancBee on Lorraine) I've been frantically grunking the threads from January on her viral supermarket conspiracy theory and I just want to say that she NEVER had a commissioned piece in the FT. So she lied to JOB about that one. There are three FT articles in total that mention her, all from this year, all positive, but in the softer bit of the paper that no one really reads. There is an editorial piece praising the vimes Boots Index (of which there is nary a sign) and a piece by Helen Thomas (Chris Giles is her boss I think) about food price inflation which mentions JM approvingly at the start but then goes on to give ASDA's rebuttal plenty of space - they have 400 smart price items, less than half are on the website. Yes some of those items have gone up in price but as smartprice always had the slimmest margins (or were outright loss leaders) there is really no scope to avoid passing on input price increases to customers. And wheat and grains have seen the worst price rises because of the Ukraine situation and the volatility in the commodity markets in the months leading up to the invasion. Whereas with posh ready meals you can do all sorts of clever things to keep the price apparently static whilst making the item cheaper to produce.
So...it's not all a conspiracy against YOU, Jack! There are global and geopolitical things that happen that HUGELY affect things without the UN, NATO, the Kremlin or global commodity markets all creeping softly, gently into Southend to humbly consult you! Yeah crazy I know!
I'm very relieved that the FT didn't wholly fall for JM's lies, emotional bullying and gaslighting. That really would have been the last bastion of sanity for me. What a deceitful shitshow that whole viral episode was.
