Does anyone know if it's normal for people on Patreon to offer physical rewards, like Jack's postcards etc?

The ones I have come across previously offer things like extra podcasts, articles and so on. Like the Dawn Oporter one that somebody mentioned in the last thread.

It seems like Dawn works hard, but she's also working smart - no matter how many subscribers she gets, she makes one podcast for them all. Takes her the same amount of time and money regardless of number of subscribers.

Jack has promised various postcards, framed prints, mounted prints. She would have to spend a fair whack on getting things printed and framed, postage costs etc. Plus the logistics of getting it all posted.

Just seems like another example of Jack's maverick (read: massively inefficient) ways! Like printing off scans of ancient Asda receipts and then manually typing them into a spreadsheet...Or hand writing all the address labels for her Kickstarter books...Or decanting mixed herbs into a milk bottle and labelling it mixed herbs...

Slap it up her, and them. Imagine Jack releasing a monthly podcast. Paying to listen to that voice wang on about how Freddo caramels used to be called Taz and were 10p. And thinking it's helping people in poverty somehow.
True, but I think it's a really good point that @A1990 makes, Jack's still really living in an analog world, despite having made her name through socials. There are things she could do digitally other than a podcast which would make things far more easy for her but I'm sure as heck not going to give her any ideas by posting them here.

I'm not subscribed to any but of the few I know about two are podcasts. One offers exclusive episodes to patreons as well as discounts to their online shops the other offers extra digital content including a monthly zoom type meeting. I also know of a sewing one where there are digital PDF patterns available monthly as well as other online content.

You are so right about her offering loads of physical rewards! I hadn't clocked that before. Obviously those others I've mentioned have a lot of work involved as you have to research and prepare the content but once it's ready you just press a button and it goes out to everyone. Writing and printing recipe postcards, finding frames for prints, taking photographs and posting the whole lot. For that many subscribers? It was never going to happen was it? Which is probably why she hasn't bothered for well over a year.

Well fraus this is a bit depressing. I’m sure we would all love a 2k deposit every month for doing nothing. Watch her try and claim poverty now…
Wonder what the first Patreon update will be. If she didn’t feel absolutely entitled to that money she would be bricking it. She does and also is a bit thick so probably hasn’t really thought about it.

She's running a Patreon like it's a Kickstarter. Clueless. Edit: my friend has one that sends physical products but they are prototypes or advance releases of products she sells successfully through her online shop anyway.

You're right. Omg, I bet her first Patreon post to all the newbies will be about how she can't possibly provide all the promised goods, and ask them for other ideas which she will also not provide

I think what I'm most depressed about re. the events of the past week or so is how it demonstrates that certain people seem to be completely untouchable in the media. Any takedown will be used against the author as proof of their wrong thinking rather than shining a light onto a grift. People are so entrenched in their own centrist ideologies and fandoms that it seems impossible to shift them. I just can't imagine what it will take for their eyes to be opened.

I am a patron of a musician, he does a weekly address in which he personally thanks each new arrival, weekly podcast, tutorials, lyric analysis etc and also has a private discord chat that he is often in. I feel like I get my monies worth and happy to support him especially as their work was so disrupted by Covid, and its a privilege to get some insight in to the work and life of someone I have admired for over 20yrs.

I do hope this is her undoing. It is going to cause a chink in her 'I'm poor' act. Any claims of poverty she now makes will be seen as a choice, not a necessity. As we know it has been for some time, but now there is a definite way to prove she is earning a significant amount of money outside of what she claims to 'be her job'.

And the amount of people that will just blindly sign up to something because a blue tick told them to 🤯
