Home and Away

Something I've always found really curious ... "VJ" ("Leah's" son) was a cute little kid; next minute, he was replaced with an actor who towered over her and looked nothing like him!

I tried to find the reason for the casting change but was unsuccessful. I get that they probably wanted the character to pursue more adult lines, but if they'd just waited a bit they could've done that (given he was the same age as "Jett" and we saw him return as a young man). It was just strange how they went about it - it was all very sudden. They couldn't even explain his sudden growth spurt with a a time passage or anything, as one day he was small; the next he was huge. Maybe in real life his parents wanted him to focus on school or something.

A lot of the younger actors tend to disappear for a while around a certain age, to go and do their exams. Also, I vaguely remember reading an interview (not sure if was about VJ though) where they said they said they also swap actors if they are going to be given really gritty storylines that it wouldn't be appropriate for the younger ones to do.

I wouldn't be disappointed if they wrote "Tori" and "Martha" out ... they bring nothing to the show (especially Martha - I always look away when her storylines come on). Tori is boring, interfering and controlling - she's just not very interesting. Not a fan of Mia and her duck pout either.

I feel like this show is going through one of its boring periods.

I really like Mia's character but she's a bit overactive with the facial expressions and it's beginning to bug me.

I think Home and Away lost the plot way back when they introduced the Braxtons - the whole gang storyline was such a turnoff.

It does feel stale at the moment ...

The storyline that seems the strangest to me is that with Martha ... it just goes around and around in circles and she's not a fun character to watch - she's miserable and selfish.

All the other storylines are blah ... none of the characters are particularly likable so it's hard to sympathise with them. I fast forward whenever Tori or Bella come on.

Maybe introducing a new family ... possibly blended (second marriage for the parents who've each brought kids into the marriage as well as having their own) ... would give it a much-needed burst of energy. Having some school-aged kids on the show would give Roo something to do too, as she has nobody to teach :ROFLMAO:

Jodi Gordon, who played Martha (Roo's daughter, not mother), has said she's keen to come back, but I think rather than bring her back as Martha, she'd be an excellent sister for Mack - they look similar and they could have a bit of fun with a sibling rivalry storyline. It wouldn't be the first time they'd reintroduced the same actor as a different character.

Very good point about the characters, none of them seem very likable and feel nothing for them.

I was just googling Martha because I was sure she died (she didn’t). And I remembered her name was Martha Mackenzie 😹 Also another similarity to Mack was this storyline...

“Martha ends their relationship and she finds out that she is pregnant. Martha has an abortion, which leads her to start drinking heavily.”

As a side note does anyone find Mack’s facial expressions hilarious? Especially when she’s “drunk”.

That era was my fav with the crazy cult, Martha and Jack, Sally’s crazy stalker.

They used to have really good end of year cliffhangers/disasters too, but not so much anymore. Maybe covid has put a stop to the big stunts.

I do quite like Ziggy - she's really stepped up recently (won't say how as I don't want to ruin it for anyone who's not seeing the show in the Aussie timeline), but what a great character she is. I wish they'd do more with Marilyn - there's so much potential there. Aside from her storyline with Dr Sid way back when, she just sort of hovers in the background, except when someone needs to place a diner order, get their hair done, or get a tarot reading.

Some more businesses would be good for Summer Bay ... let Marilyn open a hairdressing salon and employ staff who have families, and leverage off that.

I found it surprising that "Coco" never returned ... I thought the actress was away sitting exams but would return, but for whatever reason that never eventuated.

The storyline of Nikau and his modeling is a bit tiresome. The photographer guy reminds me of Axl (the school teacher guy who hooked up with Bianca way back when).

I don't like the drug storyline either ... I tune in to Home and Away and to see sunshine and golden sand, and some good meaty drama, but lately it's all been doom and gloom.

I'd never heard of Jo Joyner before so looked her up - wow, they're doppelgangers!

I think Ziggy looks a lot like "Ricky" also (Brax's wife).

Allegra is pretty, and so is the model scout.
Yes that Sienna is a very stunning girl too. I can see the resemblence to Brax's wife with Ziggy too.

Wonder if Sienna and Allegra become regulars? Seems Allegra has a lot of character they can build from as she seems to want to help Nicau.

Allegra seems to be a pawn in Sienna's schemes, in that Sienna keeps reminding her that her career is going nowhere without Nikau. Nasty character, but the actress plays the role really well.

I don't think they will become regulars ... they've just taken on two new recruits (a surgeon and cop), and got rid of Amber and Jai. It's not so much a one-in, one-out, arrangement, but it does seem that production has tightened its belts slightly due to Covid.
