As someone who first started watching F1 at the age of 6 with my dad I’m pissed at horners comments but are we surprised?

And really so what if there are more younger viewers. It’s bringing life into a sport that was becoming stale and only for the “elite”. He’s probably just being a Karen about it as the young girls are not flocking after his drivers!

BUT I will say this about the younger fan base. Do they think they are actually in love with these drivers? Sure some of them, maybe. But they are obsessive so they probably know more about F1 than the casual male fan.

I can like something for it’s competitive nature and still think someone is good looking. They don’t have to be exclusive from one another.

He needs to word it differently in a sport where women are massively underrepresented. Even if he is correct (imo he isn’t but that’s an individual thing) he needs to be really careful with statements like these when they go racing in countries like Saudi etc. He‘s a girl dad, he should just imagine how his daughters would feel hearing that or how he would feel hearing that about his daughters
 
Bit disappointed with some people agreeing with Horner so easily. I'm a big fan of this sport since 2003 and I have heard this tit about fans of "pretty" drivers since them, I'm really sorry nothing changed for the young girls. I mean, some of the drivers are pretty ofc, but I don't believe someone would watch 2 hours of a boring race just because a random guy with helmet is beautiful.

They don't believe in our passion and that's it.

You wouldn’t catch young girls watching 20 guys in helmets driving round for hours just because they are attractive so yeah he’s wrong, the fact the drivers are attractive is an added bonus 😂 but we are here for the sport

Fangirls are always judged, we are never allowed to be interested in something it’s always put down to you just think …. is hot

I definitely agree with you and this isn’t something that can be said as females genereally. My point was dts brought A LOT of girls into the sport because they like the drivers and then many probably got interested in the sport as well. Horner’s statement was tit and should not been said but there is truth to it. I’ve personally been into the sport since i was a kid and it had nothing to do with the drivers, their looks or personaloties but as they get more visible and build their brand outside of just racing their fanbase grows also out of their pure talent on track
 
Of course the type of girls he mentions exist, just look at synonymous, but he’s acting like it’s the regular case instead of women genuinely being into motorsports. That’s what I’m hung up on mostly

I always thought Horner‘s misogyny was pretty externalized. There was a scene in DTS where he was with Geri and the way he spoke to her was just kind of disrespectful, always bothered me.

It’s not just the drivers looks though, as he is insinuating. Horner is making it look like young girls are sex driven monsters only attracted by their good looks (and like not even all the drivers are that good looking 😂). It’s the drama, the sport, their personalities etc. Females can be attracted to all of these, not just the drivers physique. That’s what’s so harmful about it I think. He just shouldn’t have said it, he should’ve used different things instead of the drivers physical attributes.

No don’t worry I totally get your point and no bad feeling towards you at all ❤ I’m just expressing my rage over Horner as I’m bored waiting in the doctors office to get my cast taken off 😂

Edit: I am so fed up of the toxic culture that men and women aren’t allowed to just be friends with each other, part of what winds me up about the throuple stuff like why can’t Luisa and Max just be friends and in the same room without ‘oh they must be shagging’ and it’s the same here

agreed. This girl is just nuts. You can be friends with a guy and NOT be sleeping with them. Ffs. Is she meant to be going around with a i heart Lando T-shirt on and looking miserable.

Id think landos efforts from the flower shop on valentines and the Winnie the Pooh declarations of love would be enough the clue this idiot in that they are in a committed relationship 🙄
