I think it count for the moment he is on the entry list for fp1. I remember Pourchaire having only 2 laps in one of his session because of some mechanical issue and it still count.
I don't blame him for this crash but all the hype Toto put on him just because he couldn't have Max. He should let him develop in f2 for at less one more season before putting him in F1. It could potentially ruins his career, especially if Mercedes is back at the front next season.
Oh they just saw a replay of an interview of George from yesterday were he said he will just ask Kimi to not crash his car. It didn't age well.

To add to this, it probably doesn't help that they put him on soft tyres from the start of the session on a track where the asphalt is new and no one knows how it will behave

yeah, F1tv comemntators just kind of analysed this saying the first impressions of the car can be so tricky you can be so hyped up with the speed and grip etc until - a key phrase - physics catches up with you 😅

I mean, I will watch his onboards out of curiosity later, but it was the team's responsibility to tell him to not go crazy/start carefully (maybe they did and than it is more on him, I will report back) but still, we get a rookie who goes 1st in the first laps, it seems probable noone told him to start slowly

Tbh the session plans Mercedes had for Kimi today make absolutely no sense to me at all 😅 Why giving him the car with the updates, the new engine and put him in quali mode from the start? Toto is losing the plot

F1TV pro was also very critical of Kimi - to take that sort of risk on your first laps…so will we see a kimi to Merc announcement this weekend or not 🤔

I have a feeling they wanted him to put in some quick laps to avoid all the "it's too early for him" comments when they willl announce him. But it comes back at them real quick. I wouldn't be surprised if they finally change their mind and don't announce him this weekend.

Bradley Lord basically said the team told him to go out and have fun. I wonder if Kimi decided he wanted to prove everyone wrong?
