I agree with you and as a result tomorrow is going to be one big mess IMO.

Yeah I’m actually livid. I am an amateur viewer but I bloody love Eurovision and this is just ruining it.

If that’s the case, it is unbelievable the bullying a certain country does. This contest is no longer a fair and transparent contest when a certain country is buying votes, rigging the contest and (ironically) jackbooting their way through it all.
We are meant to have free speech in Europe. Being opposed to a genocide does not make us anti-semetic and that country has robbed the joy out of the whole experience.
Their song is an ode to a murderous army after all.

I’m listening to LBC ( so absolutely no clue how accurate this is ) and the newsreader just said that it was to do with Joost wanting Eden to answer the question of whether Israel’s participation could pose a danger to other contestants.
Personally I think this is a fairly reasonable question. It’s not as though he was waving a Palestinian flag around or making antisemitic comments.
All this has really taken the shine off tomorrow. Not sure I cba with it.
She did answer the question though.

I assume it’s because that question should have been aimed at the people who made threats towards the Israeli entry rather than the entry herself. She doesn’t pose any risk, it’s the people who are determined all Israelis are one homogenous mass and all personally deserve to be killed that are the issue. The conflict is not her fault. It wouldn’t be seen as acceptable to ask the Ukrainian entry if their presence was dangerous because Russia have an awful habit of offing people, would it? So it’s not ok here.

Here are the viewing figures from Semi-Final 1 and I don't know if it's me but some of these figures seem lower than in previous years.

Christ, it's all kicking off. I have quite mixed feelings about tomorrow too. If a contestant has been disqualified, do they bring in a non qualifier with the highest score or not bother?

Just call the whole thing off, say that Israel won so that everyone can move on. The EBU made an absolute mess out of this year‘s competition. Let Israel compete for all I care, they always have. But suppressing critical voices and calls for ceasefire or sympathy for innocent civilians in Gaza - that‘s evil and they know it.
This is a song contest not a political arena.
I'm already sick to death of protests and flag waving.

For the record I don't want Israel to win because their song isn't the best and they probably should have withdrawn from the competition, but I feel a bit sorry for the girl as its not her fault.

But it's not. It's a song contest and the rules have always been there is no politics. Ukraine have been pulled up before (prior to the Russian invasion) for having political lyrics. It's not new. The contestants and countries participating know this.

Everything’s political these days and just because you’re privileged enough not having to care, doesn’t mean others shouldn’t. The organizers have made the contestant political for years. Why is Russia not there then? Or Belarus? Why did Ukraine not host last year?? If you don’t want to see „politics“ (calling for ceasefire or human rights isn’t political, but go off I guess) then Eurovision is definitely not the show to watch.

Music has always been political.

Agreed. And if Joost felt so strongly that the Israeli entry shouldn’t be there either due to the current situation or just because of the security risk then he should have spoken up earlier and withdrawn. By participating in a contest with Israel, every single contestant is agreeing Israel should be there - participation wasn’t mandatory and there were calls for countries and acts to boycott.

Don't be ridiculous. I've watched Eurovision for about 45 years. I think I know what Eurovision is about. I'm out of this thread.

He was practicing the flag walk earlier with the others so it’s hard to believe that whatever happened last night (allegedly) got picked up minutes before rehearsals

How dare you say that. You know nothing.
I'm adding you to my block list for being a complete idiot.
