Educating Greater Manchester

I only caught a bit of it after Bake Off and surprised myself at how much I enjoyed it. I thought the headteacher(?) Povey was ace, really good with the kids although was really surprised to hear he was suspended - seemed to get loads of stick on twitter. That kid, Jacob, really got on my tits though omg

I thought he came across really well - do you know why he was suspended?

I googled it. It says de-registering pupil's! I think it's to fudge the figures. Like take the really bad kids off the register so the results look more favourable for ofsted?

Ooh... wouldn’t have expected that. Bad obviously but not that scandalous!

The Povey suspension scandal is old news -2018. Not sure why the papers have brought it up again (just because is a new series of Educating 🙄) He works as a motivational speaker for various businesses now- all this is public knowledge and shared on his Instagram.

I've watched the last series of this too. There's a big change in Katelynn's (spelling?) behaviour this season. However, I think she has a good bit of growing up to do if she wants a career in nursing. A university won't check up on you every day to make sure you're attending classes. I hope she realises that she has to make those choices herself and no one will baby her once she leaves school.

I really felt for that boy who bought the knife in, which I know is a strange thing to say. I think that he just didn't consider the consequences or assumptions that might be made if people saw it. He looked really remorseful. Although an incredibly silly thing to do, I couldn't help but feel for the boy! I bet his parents gave him some strong words when he got home!

I like these programmes but as a teacher I sometimes find it all a bit cringe 😂
I’m not sure about the head.... he seemed to be everywhere and a bit try hard with the students - trying to be pally and ‘down with the kids’ a bit - but that’s just my opinion and my personal view - not really a fan of that!

I dunno about anyone else but I'm really impressed with the entrepreneurship of some of these kids with their "black market" sweets and drinks! I know what they're doing is wrong as it's against the rules but some of them will definitely go far in business haha!

That kid making £25 a DAY😱 genuinely wish I’d thought of this when I was at school! I said to my partner if our kids did something like this I would find it really hard to be annoyed with them because quite frankly it’s genius at that age. Wonder if the teachers sometimes turn a blind eye to it because although it’s against the rules what’s the real harm? Seemed like there were quite a lot of kids doing it. It’s not like it’s ciggies or drugs. It does show that often banning things doesn’t work, it just forces the issue underground.

Love this show but need to catch up on the last series as I forgot about it for a while. The kids they feature are real characters (obviously why they get picked to feature in the first place!).

I liked the earlier series when you saw a bigger variety of staff. This year (or 2018) seems like The Drew Povey Show.
@Lilykins I’m a teacher too and it drives me nuts the amount of gum that’s being chewed and skirts being rolled!

I agree, if I were a parent and my child was making money at school, not really causing any great harm, I'd probably just be glad it's sweets they're selling and nothing else! I definitely don't think I'd tell them off for it - I'd ask for a cut of the profits hahah

Think that’s my problem with it, seems to all be about him? Find that so unrealistic, Heads have lots of stuff to be going on with I don’t think they involve themselves in as much as he seems to.

Haha yeah and phones dangling out of pockets?!

Yeah if my daughter did this I would be pretty impressed 😂

I believe a lot of the staff didn’t want to be shown...there’s a lot of anger from staff that are left working there at the situation re: his suspension.

I noticed his brother who works as a teacher, had his face blurred out on last nights episode! I wonder why that is? 🤔

Watching Episode 2 and it just strikes me even more this episode than before that it really just feels like the Mr Povey show, it’s all about him, and so much feels set up for the cameras... like the boy making prank calls in a teachers office but there were cameras in this random office and then the head teacher happens to go in to an office that isn’t his?
And then the therapy animals in lessons and around school?! I know there is a place for these kinds of therapies, but I think just giving these animals for the students to cart around a massive comprehensive school just doesn’t seem right. Again just seems like something done for the cameras. Those poor animals.
