I've just replied to someone on the Disney planning thread to say I really wouldn't bother going to WDW at the moment because Bob Paycheck has ripped out it's heart and soul. It's about as far from Walt's original vision as you can get. I'm going to DLP shortly and I'm interested to see how/if that has changed.

I love DLP, it's my favourite over WDW... I actually get really peed off when vloggers disregard it so much.... Its completely different to WDW and just isn't comparable in a lot of ways.... But anyways, it is a bit naff atm until the studios park gets finished and avengers opens etc. The loss of free fastpass is also a bummer but crowd's don't seem to be too manic, just yet.

I just keep thinking that this is not what Walt wanted. Yes, they are trying to keep up with the times with more modern rides and experiences, but I don't think he would agree with the constant price hikes and pricing families out. It should not be an elite holiday location but something that is available to all and has something for everyone from the youngest to the oldest in the family.

Disney has always been a very expensive vacation from the UK and even from the US. I know prices have gone up recently but it’s not like it was ever available to everyone. I’ve seen people moaning on Facebook groups they the cost of their 4 week Florida trip from the UK has gone up so much, they can only afford to do 3. Diddums. Also people moaning that they should be Disney’s target market because they have kids and so it should be affordable. Nope. It’s a private business.

I never see anyone complaining that they can’t afford a safari (for example) anymore or saying that should be affordable and prices are comparable to Disney.

Ooh thank you, hopefully I'll manage to do quite a bit then. And, yes, I love DLP too, it has the best version of many of the rides and the theming is fantastic.

Oh it's never been a cheap holiday but the prices have rocketed post Bob Paycheck, particularly now you've got to pay for all food and every ride you want to go on. It really mounts up compared to the glory days of free dining and free fast passes.

Controversial opinion I know but I think wdw has been going down hill for over a decade. Its a machine. The last year or so has just sped things up more.

Its all about what's new popular ip, sell sell sell, get the crowds in as much as possible. Has a weird cult like holiday camp feel to it.

The other parks worldwide and the original in california feel more authentic to me

Other expensive far flung destinations like safaris and the Maldives and the Caribbean have never had 30 direct flights a day from the U.K. 365 days a year. I’m actually surprised at the enduring popularity in these times. Still 18 direct flight per day at the moment with more coming for summer. Will be interesting to see what happens when the pandemic savings are spent.

One thing to remember though is that Disney prices for the American market and they earn a lot more than us for the same roles in the white collar world and they’re paying for 4 nights rather than 14. I could weep when I see the pay and benefits (and tax rates!) of my American colleagues in the same role. Lol I was looking at the rates of hotels and park tickets in 2010, the exchange rate in 2010 and my salary in 2010 and comparing to today’s rates, exchange rate and my current salary and its eye opening! Disney was more affordable as a % of my salary in 2010 by some measure. I had to run the numbers twice to be sure I was right it was such a difference.

The difference with the UK market though is we go for longer and spend more when we are there. That's why we generally (or used to) get special package pricing with extras and special park tickets you couldn't get over there.

Yea and lately that Bob Cheapak or whatever his name is has a bit of a question mark over that. Supposedly he/his team don’t agree with what you’ve said and what we’ve all believed was true. Instead they want short stay/high value and they think they having 4 American families in a room over a 2 week period versus one party from the U.K. is more lucrative. It’s been discussed on the Dibb and on podcasts like Dis unplugged over the past few months with a lot of detail and data from corporate meetings. Of course they also tried to shed the locals as they beloved annual pass holders didn’t spend enough when there but I saw signs up for special prices tickets for locals so they’re back tracking slightly and I’d hope they’ll reinstate good offers for this side of the pond at some stage. The corporate penny pinchers have been disgraceful over the last year.

What he is saying makes sense as they have changed their business model. Its gone from lots of people paying less to less people paying more (cant remember the proper corporate titles for the models).

A very basic comparison is primark vs gucci.

I do wonder if he now has a point too. The cult of disney that had now built up thanks to Instagram and YouTube means merchandise and food sales have sky rocketed and become much more desirable parts of peoples trips. Both merch and food change so regularly that everyone wants to get the next big thing. Ironically, all the vloggers moaning about it it's actually partly their fault its happening.

Hi guys, I just finished her latest snoozefest, what a joke this self-proclaimed Disney expert has become!
Let’s remember: they both paid for Club World to get some sleep on their way out in order to arrive well-rested for an exciting and action-packed park day! And how did that turn out??

Well, that was clearly a waste of a paid upgrade 😂
Doing FA in Magic Kingdom, riding TTA and looking at more bloody ears…if my friend put me through an itinerary like theirs I would seriously have to reconsider the friendship!
Every pore of their heavily made-up faces screams oversaturation, less is more Vicky!
I can’t believe she still has Patreon, it’s grotesque

Good comparison because as someone who kept a job through the pandemic working from home and is very much one of the fortunate ones I scratch my head at the lines for Gucci stores as much as the lines for Disney rides. So expensive, questionable whether the value is there and yet people are lining up flush with cash. What’s their secret?! I was tickled at the speed at which our big boss man shed his Gucci loafers when Gucci blew up. The whole C Suite dropped everything Gucci overnight! He’s in Hermes now - until some Instagrammer blows them up I suppose 😂

Victoria needs to take a step back and reassess what she films. I got through the full travel day and as usual they’re tired and dropping out of the parks early. It’s almost pantomime now with us all no doubt shouting at the screen because the plot is so predictable.

If you’re reading this Victoria a resort tour, a restaurant review, a room tour, a “10 best”….anything but another day in the park or more footage of ears and merch.

Does anyone know what extras Patreons are getting at the moment?

Doesn’t she also let them decide her days? They pick rides and where she’ll have coffee? How often she does those polls or what level you have to be I don’t know but Ive heard her say “you guys chose Joffreys” a few times in vlogs.

I genuinely think for a lot of these vloggers, their patreons are lonely and basically buying friends, or pseudo friendship
I get it if the vlogger is providing you with useful information or entertainment and you want to thank them in some way. But Victoria's vlogs are neither informative nor entertaining so I really don't know why anyone would give her money, other than to buy some weird kind of pseudo friendship or feel part of a gang that doesn't exist.

Totally agree. I’ve been a patreon subscriber (if that’s what you call it) to someone who put in an awful lot of time and effort to a certain of interest of mine and it was well worth it to take part in the patreon only discussion groups etc and I was happy to support this person for doing what they did. Cannot imagine what anyone gets from Victoria, other than pseudo-friendship. Certainly no information.

Yes, one of my friends has been to all the Disney parks except Shanghai and Tokyo and she says that DLP is definitely her favourite. She went to WDW with her dad every year as a kid and now as an adult pre-Covid was doing California or Florida almost every year besides their other family vacations with her husband and kids. She's decided that both parks can wait in favour of other destinations around the world she wants to see and do. I've only been to WDW so if I get to Tokyo this summer I'm sure that will taint WDW in future.

I think for Brits, they will have to start looking at saving money by staying off-site vs. onsite. Unless you're getting a fantastic deal, nobody can tell me that two weeks in a villa rental isn't cheaper than two weeks at a value resort or possibly even a moderate.

I'd like to thank whoever brought up the topic of renting DVC points though (I think it was this thread or Twattan's). I googled about it yesterday and found the websites that allow you to do that. The week in November we're looking at an AKL studio with Savanna view is comparable to a moderate resort booking direct through Disney and we had been looking at Pop or Port Orleans. My mum's dream is to stay at AKL and have a Savanna view because she's never going on a proper safari in Africa. We've been teasing that if one of us wins the lottery that's where we'll stay. I know the units are more dated than some other DVCs and the buses are a bit of a pain in the arse but damn it, if I can make a 72 year old senior happy that she can see animals from her balcony so be it. If it doesn't happen for November then I'll definitely look at that option for 2023.

I rarely comment but couldn't help myself at this point. How old is this grown arse woman? Now don't get me wrong nothing wrong with the Disney spirit but seriously, a suitcase of disney ears? Next up....what's with the creepy "single white female" vibe of her and Kate wearing identical clothing, makeup, hair colour etc....me and my bestie did that at 16!!! My husband sat with his dinner and looked up at her in another pair of ears and announced "dear oh dear what a dick" then put the comment on her video which got removed in minutes 🤣 How old is she?

She’s almost 40 😳
It’s quite sad really my wife takes around 8 pairs of ears (yes I take the mick out of her for it lol) but not a suitcase full!
As for deleting comments it’s my biggest pet peeve that YouTubers do that! They cannot take any criticism!
