Crafting

As part of the post-summer holiday, back-to-school, gut-and-clean of my house, I discovered that someone had spilt coke or coffee on my massive yarn basket and it had seeped through, so I had to bin loads 😭

Obviously, today I have had to spend £££ buying more 🤣

Faded painted roses by Cherry Heart, here I come (and a couple of other projects we won’t tell my husband about!)

Oh no what a shame

I finished a pair of socks yesterday

IDK anything about Crafting much but can't the yarn be washed or will that make it not suitable to be worked into projects?
It maybe depends on how much and the extent of the damage. My friend got coffee all over her crochet project but she managed to salvage it.

I honestly don’t know how long it’s been there, long enough to dry at least. I haven’t really done anything since before the summer holiday, so best case scenario it’s about 3 months. I wish whoever had done it had told me, but it is what it is 🤷🏻‍♀️. It’s proper soaked in and dried. I managed to take the outside off some of the less damaged yarn and sent it to the after school club, but some was beyond saving. I did consider throwing it in an organza bag and trying to wash it. It’s in a bag in the summer house at the moment so I might look again.

Good excuse to yarn shop though 🤣

Is anyone crafting any Christmas gifts?

I am making some crochet beanie hats. 3 people have specifically asked if I could make them a hat and told me what sort of colours they like. I have been able to use yarn from my stash for 2 of them. I have finished one, and have started on 2nd.
If I finish it on time I plan on getting a cross stitch framed and gifting it

I’m such a selfish crafter, I make everything for me and the odd pair of socks for gifting

Not selfish at all, you're allowed to have a hobby that you enjoy for you - all those people out there playing sport for themselves. There's an extra level of stress in making things for other people that I don't enjoy (especially with knitting because I am slooooow). Embrace wearing your own made things! :)

I would really love to get into painting by numbers it looks so relaxing
My brain had the audacity to suggest I try a paint by numbers for the first time in years the other week, I bought it and opened it, painted for about an hour, realised I didn't like the colours, the design or the paintbrushes supplied and have ignored it ever since.

I'm currently embroidering a monogram Christmas themed letter for my LO, similar to this but of my own design. I haven't embroidered in years but it seems to be going ok... except my satin stitches are all over the place, I'm going to have to unpick a lot of them and I didn't secure a few of the threads properly so it's starting to unravel a bit 😑

I want to try making a ' coccoon cardigan', but it is made from one very large granny square, and I have only ever successfully made a granny square once.

It is just the first few rounds that I can't get to look good, and if the middle isn't good it just looks worse as it gets bigger.

I ended up looking up tutorial after tutorial and getting more and more annoyed with my messy square, until I accidentally clicked on a tutorial for a solid granny square and something clicked in my brain.

It took me a few goes to get the corners right, but now it looks great. I like this better than the normal version. I just don't know if it will work for my cardi. Maybe I am just going to make a giant square to use up some yarn I have had hanging about for ages and the cardigan can wait for a bit...
