Ate out (outside) with my Dad last night and now he’s been contacted by Track & Trace this morning as 4 people at his work have tested positive how do I stop myself from panicking for the next few weeks about getting it. I have such bad health anxiety

not particularly useful other than a pledge that the is ‘lockdown’ will only be until 2nd December and the promise of furlough until March 2021. It’s pretty much blah, blah, protect the NHS save lives, thing again :/

I do feel optimistic that we will be back into tiers by the second (never thought I’d be wishing we were in tier 3 again but hey ho).

We havnt seen my MIL since March, she has lots of health problems and has been shielding. She refused to see us even when restrictions were relaxed. Now she’s saying she won’t see us at Christmas no matter what Boris says. Any advice on how to proceed/deal with this, while being sympathetic to how she feels. (She does live with her husband so isn’t totally isolated, though her choices are having a really bad effect on her mental health).

I think empathy will go a long way without enabling more of the behaviour. Connect in ways she is comfortable with, let her know you are there when she is ready, and look for signs of withdrawal/depression where an intervention may be needed. I am dealing with similar with some family, some are quite fearful or just feel it is not worth the risk (to them, or for us for traveling out etc) and I have to respect their wishes. Their health and their home. It’s hard. Haven’t seen some since Feb. keep checking in

I agree, you can only respect her wishes. Keep checking in on her, calling, FaceTiming etc. I’ve cancelled a few visits with friends hen the lockdown was lifted as I wasn’t comfortable and them respecting my views and doing over FaceTime made me feel much better. With he lockdown there is little you can’t o but maybe as they lift ask what she’d be comfortable doing and start small.

Given that people in England are being asked to shield again, I’m not sure that having people in the house who have school aged children at home is really safe exposure. As someone in the shielded category I’d be livid if someone suggested that to me. I think the best thing to do is respect her choice about her own health and risks.
