Conversations with friends

Sorry if there’s a thread already I did look and I couldn’t see one. New bbc drama based off another one of Sally Rooney’s books. I absolutely loved normal people and I can’t wait to start watching it later!

I searched for a thread earlier and couldn’t find one. I’m finding it kind of toe curling but I didn’t really get the hype about Normal People either. Everyone raves about how Sally Rooney’s characters are so three dimensional but I’ve found the adaptions quite stilted and awkward. Obviously I am going to watch all 12 episodes before the day ends though 😂

I’m on episode 6 but it’s very slow going and I still don’t like any of them! I’ve noticed it has quite a few different writers and Sally Rooney hasn’t written any of the episodes yet like she did with normal people.

It’s the same director as NP and a lot does seem similar but it’s nowhere near as good as NP for me.

Also trying to work out Nick’s accent. Just because he’s the strong silent type does it mean he has to mumble so much? Could see zero chemistry between them either to warrant starting an affair.

He’s supposed to be Irish but he’s crap at the accent and he just whispers all the time! I agree, no chemistry and very little conversation they just had sex. The sex scenes were also crap!

OMG this is making me shout profanities at the TV I am watching it to wind my own self up
1 Why is it called Conversations with Friends when no one actually speaks
2 Why is the fit sexy brooding actor interested in the gormless plain Janye Francis who dresses like a toddler in the 90s
3 Why would a charismatic couple befriend a pair of students and keep inviting them to dinner when they have absolutely zero personality

The only thing this show got right was naming Francis Francis as she's the most Francis looking Francis whose ever Francised

I agree with what you said but not your criticism of the name Francis as I know a MAN called Francis as that’s the male spelling! This character is female so it’s Frances!

Frances is just a crap person really isn’t she? Never opens up to anyone and treats everyone like garbage. Also she’s young why she so hung up over one guy? Get a grip you have your whole life ahead of you just wanna shake her lol.
Am going to finish it today so I can move on with my life 😂

Watched the first episode last night. It's a bit slow moving, isn't it? Just a bit! I had to laugh at the title 'Conversations with friends,' since Taylor Swift's bf and the MC looked like they'd rather be tortured than have an actual conversation with anyone. Very stilted and awkward. I found Normal People very overrated too (even though I enjoyed the book) but people just went crazy for that show (and Paul Mescal) and I just didn't get it on either count.

As others have said why the hell is it called ‘conversations with friends’?
It’s just totally the wrong name for the show and I was honestly expecting something else
And yes what the hell does he see in Frances?
If your gonna have an affair at least make it worth while with an absolute stunner
I would be mortified and offended if my husband had an affair with a really plain boring looking person lol

Finished watching it no chemistry with any of the actors do awkward. Read the book whi h I enjoyed this was a let down
Can you nail down what makes the book so different from the programme? I haven’t read it but it seemed to be popular and this series is not… Have the characters been miscast? Has the dialogue and drive been altered? Not enough plot development to explain why people are behaving?
