But what's the point? Surely, he is supposed to be watching the child (creepy in itself) to make sure they are good so Santa comes on Christmas eve? Ridiculous that this daft and irritating trend now also also brings gifts?

Yes, the story is to make sure the kids behave - our big kid isn’t badly behaved so it’s got nothing to do with behaviour for us. The thing is, each class in her school has one, as well as all of her school friends, Mr Day started it last year. People basically get pressured into it because everyone has one. They’re £4 and we just do easy peasy stuff so it takes two minutes on a night before bed. Kids find them hilarious so we don’t really mind.
 
Noah playing with the plastic fruit and veg, I bet he doesn’t know what they are! It’s also the closest that child is going to get to some proper nutrition!
And the Christmas trees and decorations, how can having someone come in and do it for you feel anything like as special as doing it yourself? That’s all part of a proper Christmas. They also look like department store trees - amazing, but superficial and just all for show..
