I wonder what the demographic of her group is?

Is there a majority of young women (under 30) who view her as an all knowing mother figure?

I’m in my late 40s and recently had a clearout of beauty products that had accumulated over the years (gifts, advent calendars etc) all unused as no idea what to do with them.
I hadn’t heard of Caroline Hiron until a few weeks ago, thought I’d start to educate myself and bought the book. I’m just in the process of changing my routine but still using my current products (Elemis and body shop).
Yesterday I was looking at buying some new products - OMG the shear amount of products out there and the expense 😯 💷
So after a few hours of looking into acids I bought some of the The Ordinary Serum because it was the lowest strength I could find and only £4.20.

This morning I had a realisation that I might be being led astray so before buying anything else thought I’d search on here for ‘Caroline Hiron’ and my heart sank a little as there’s a few threads - so I’m off to read them all.
At least if I am being duped I’ve only wasted £4.20.

Who has been illegally selling tret in the group?

Disclaimer: not a chemist, product developer or come from a dynasty of SAs, did a little reading on base oils years ago, so influencer level of knowledge 😁

Had a little look at that brand and their ingredients. They seem to use a lot of different base oils and not the inexpensive ones, and if the oils are cold-pressed or CO2 extracted, high quality etc., that's not cheap. But it's not THAT expensive. Also, they seem to throw everything at once, when just a mixture of 3-4 oils will do the same thing. However, the amount of essential oils in their products is criminal. I know not everyone will react to essential oils or have a problem ever, but a lot of people will. Especially if you put them over AHAs, retinol or any active ingredients, not to mention citrus oils which are phototoxic or photosensitive. They have a "Summer Oil" with practically every citrus oil, wtf?

She often recommends products with essentail oils for sensitive skin:

Are you part of her group?

Yes, and have been an avid blog and YouTube follower for years.

I enjoy hearing about new products, and there aren't many middle aged skincare bloggers.

I don't like the "Freaks" thing. I don't want to be part of a club or mugs worshipping "Our Queen" and buying the same camo pants she wears. It's cringeworthy

Plus over the last year or so I've definitely switched off and no longer enjoy her content like I did.
I don't find her genuine anymore, I know she needs to make money and it's her business but I don't really trust her product recommendations now.
She hypes up products she puts in her kits - are they in her kits because truly they're the best products or is more a case she gets them at massive discount if she hypes them up.

I've seen reviews stating that Darphin or May Lindstrom or some other essential oil heavy brand helped them with eczema or rosacea, so who knows, I've almost always had a bad reaction, and my derm told me the general rule is to stay clear, but especially if you have reactive skin. If the ingredient is on the bottom of the INCI list, I'd probably tolerate the product better, but these oils filled with frankincense, geranium, citrus and straight up perfume irritate the duck out of my skin (even on my body).

I've just muted the group for a month. So much drama. I'm into skincare, not squabbles.
I joined the group a couple of years ago ( after she'd done a collaboration with Space NK - and there was a fantastic selection of goodies in kit which was just over £100) and when there were fewer than 10,000 members....it was definitely more select then and the members were more friendly and knowledgeable...now it's just a bun fight to see who can get the most likes and spend the most money!

It sounds as though since Caroline’s persona changed so did the profile of her audience and membership. I’ve read comments on Instagram from long-standing members (from 5+ years ago) where they ask a simple question and just get shot down with rudeness. But then equally I’ve seen people having a go a ‘newbies’ and making them feel really unwelcome too. It just seems like a mean girls club and if your face doesn’t fit then you’re out. Caroline obviously sets the tone, and these people are made to feel its perfectly ok to behave in this way - as long as they don’t slag off brands or flog cheap tret 😂

It’s a shame women aged 50 or thereabouts are still easily swayed by a gobby, unqualified saleswoman who’s after their cash and doesn’t give two fucks about their skin.

Just to add , I’m 52.

You’re the same age as my mam! I bet your skin is loads better than Caroline’s ;-) mam looks younger than 52, and way younger than CH who is only a year or two younger? Mam’s not into skincare at all lol she likes micellar water, wet wipes to cool down when it’s hot, basic face wash, and some eye creams/serums that I buy her because she’s convinced she has awful eye bags (she doesn’t). CH would scream if she knew 😆

I’m way younger but honestly it’s not necessary
My mum uses water not even a moisturiser and has better skin than her and is a lot older than her

I hate that in the group everything has to be so expensive

Like she recommends not spending your money on a Moisturizer but instead serums but then recommends Kate Somerville?
Having tried KS it’s really not worth the price

I've muted the group. Can't bring myself to quit cos I do search in it before I buy a product and like seeing other peoples reviews (not Caroline's).

It's full of sad women who desperately want to be a part of something, so much so that they'll get into debt to buy stuff their 'idol' tells them to and to join in with the pack mentality. When the kits got shipped so many people made new posts 'showing off' that their kit had arrived and it just seemed like it's because they wanted 'likes' from the other members. So weird. Why would anyone care that your postman had been?
