Captain Sir Tom Moore and Hannah Ingram-Moore #7

Interesting!

The way he trashed his first wife was appalling. The woman was obviously long dead as was anyone else who had known her, it was horribly uncalled for. Just say it didn’t work out or whatever. There was no need to be so unpleasant.
I looked on Ancestry and found his first wife's name. She died in 2014. I wonder would he have been as ready to slag her off, had she been alive and had people around to defend her?

I think a lot of people fell into the usual trap of 'oh he's an old man who must be sweet and nice'. Newsflash, nasty young people get old too. Being old or a veteran doesn't make you 'nice'

I was googling Tom ages ago and saw he had links to some MP back in the 1960s, who later was exposed as a wrong un. I wonder did they bring in lawyers because of that?

Sorry I can't locate the specifics right now and am in a rush here. I'll find the name later.
I started googling this and realised I'd actually posted about this in 2022. Below.

I'd sooner give money to a random person on the street than a registered charity these days, even if there are a lot of fake beggars I feel like I've got more chance at the money going directly to someone who needs it and not squandered on anything but the people they are meant to be helping if I gave it to charity.

I've not trusted charities for many years anyway and don't like the direct debit method of donating but how Hannah has exploited her own father including the trip to Barbados that ultimately killed him is truly awful.

I prefer to support local charities or some of the hospital charities where they are very clear about what they are spending the money on. Even though I’ve had cancer, I won’t donate to cancer research but will donate to the local hospices who really do try and give people dignified end, or the hospitals who need new scanners to speed up diagnosis and treatment - that kind of thing. In fact it pisses me off when people get swept up in these high profile campaigns whilst ignoring the need in their own communities. But that’s me probably being a bit of a grump 😊

Same here, we support 2 local animal charities and have seen the success stories of animals being abandoned and then adopted and having their lives turned around. I don't donate to big charities.

He said his first marriage was "sexless"... not the crime of the century for him to say that but it did seem pretty crass and unfair.

I thought it was written so the reader would blame his wife for the break up of the marriage - poor Tom in a sexless marriage, no wonder he left. It absolved him of any wrong doing. Totally blameless. 🙄
He could have just written “Sadly we weren’t compatible and the marriage didn't work out“ but no, it was all her fault because there was no sex.
That showed me what sort of “gentleman“ he was.

There was also a hint the poor woman was suffering from a depressive disorder and he did nothing to help her.

Also he seems keen in that extract to put himself in the best possible light. He probably had sex with other women while his wife was not having sex with him

Also its possible she could have been sexually abused before her marriage and hence would not have sex. Tom's account seems harsh especially when he comments on the 2nd wife's fìgure.

Oh...what did he say about the 2nd wife's figure??

plus for all we know he could have been terrible in bed and so his wife probably didn't want to bother. I hate how he wrote something so personal about his dead wife. If it was published and written in 2020 I suspect it might even be Hannah's input.

I instructed a solicitor to start divorce proceedings. When I told him everything that had happened between us, he informed me that I could seek an annulment on the grounds that Billie and I had never consummated our marriage. This seemed like the simplest and fastest option, so I agreed.

I reconnected with the pretty office manager, Pamela Paull. Fifteen years younger than me and in her early 30s, she looked terrific, like a model, and — to my surprise — she was still single.

Over the following year I forged a lovely friendship with Pamela, taking her out for a coffee, meals, a drink and a chat. It felt good to have someone to talk to.

Pamela was completely different to Billie — a capable working woman. Slim, blonde and stylishly dressed, she appeared to have nothing like the hang-ups of Billie and I was smitten.

It didn't seem odd to me that, at 32 years old, she'd never married or had children and still lived with her parents. I myself hadn't left home until I was almost 30, after all.

When I discovered that she'd never been abroad, either, I took her on her first foreign holiday. We drove all the way to the south of France in my Austin Princess and she loved every minute, commenting on all the Frenchmen making eyes at her.

Was this while he was still married?
