Candice Brathwaite #3

If that live was fairly recently, I don't think the woman she was referring to was CB. It was a woman who sold some sort of business advice or similar that Africa said was exploiting vulnerable Black women.

It was the live with MixingUpMotherhood (I think that's her name - hadn't heard of her before?) - a couple of months ago I think x

An influencer does not a TV presenter make. Presenting is HARD. The best make it look effortless which is why people think they can do it. The truth is not many people can do it well. You very quickly get found out. I've just watched a video of her talking about her bathroom. No way she could carry a whole documentary. An interview maybe, not as the presenter.

Mixingupmotherhood jumps on lives too much, reminds me of Aja, always jumping on whats trending in terms of fall outs/scandals

Use to think MUM was alright but shes starting to come across fake

Wonder why she suddenly deleted the live she did in support of Candice when she saved it to her grid, said something about ppl wont understand and twist her woords. No MUM, you just jump on whatevers trending like Aja Barber

I can assure you I'm not an old white skinhead. I detest people of colour who damage the movement to increase their visibility. Cb is abhorrent and I will use whatever terms and language I want to express my distaste. She has done more damage to us as a community than many white people have.
I agree with you. I’m white and genuinely didn’t understand the comment further up regarding the phrase “race card”. How is it offensive? I looked up the meaning (I’m curious and always want to understand things I read)

Meaning : “If someone plays the race card they bring up the issue of race in a discussion, perhaps for sympathy or to seek popularity by appealing to racist sentiment”

Is this not what she does?

I was definitely one of those people that ate up her hype when I only casually followed her and read her book. I saw her as giving a voice to some really important stuff. But she has a new controversy every other day so I started looking into them and noticing a pattern: she champions very valid causes but if she can't be centred in the narrative of the cause, she lashes out.
I don't think she is always losing out on things due to her race, I think she is vying for race based platforms and sometimes other people fit that platform better (e.g. Rochelle/white allies) and rather than supporting another BW involved in promoting education on this issue; she is hellbent on devaluing Rochelle.
When you tear down the very things you champion because they don't benefit you... what does that mean?
It's really frustrating to see more people aren't connecting these dots in her patterns and calling her out. She constantly gets away with it.
Glad I found this thread because her IG comments were making me feel so gaslighted.

So eloquently put! Totally agree

If you had punched in "why is saying play the race card offensive" in Google you would have found on the first page several articles and think pieces explaining why it is. Feel free to do so now.

I thought I would ask here as the subject was being discussed. I will certainly “punch it into google” now though.
It's because it's used as a way to silence people when they state that someone or something is racist. Basically saying "you're playing the race card" means shut up I'm not listening.
Please continue to ask questions.
I don't think the op meant it that way though. I totally got what she was saying. Candice is a struggle because she stopped being likeable so it's difficult to see her as a victim. I don't know what her life experience is however I know that she isn't an ally for vulnerable women and her past demonstrates that.

Candice just seems to think that everything in her life - everything that happens, everything that is ever said or done - everything is about the colour of her skin and that’s it. She cannot seem to be able to comprehend that actually sometimes the colour of her skin has got absolutely nothing at all to do with it in anyway!!!!!! Why on earth would she have ever been in the running to be a presenter for a TV documentary? She’s not a trained or experienced tv presenter. She’s got little to no media training at all. She’s also got a pretty seedy past and a hell of a reputation which a production company just wouldn’t want to be associated with. Her arrogance is astonishing.

Ha I said this earlier in the thread... How do you jump from crappy bathroom makeover presenter to presenting a serious documentary about a serious issue. Bring on rochelle I say... It needs the views! And now, candice won't even tell her story on rochelle documentary which to me, shows it was never about awareness it was about fame. I'm hugely disappointed in her for that.

If this had been a documentary about cheese rolling and Candice had been offered £50K to present it she would have been all over it. It’s got nothing to do with the subject matter. She just wanted the money and the subsequent rise in profile. Everything she does is to benefit herself and generate income for herself. For the love of God, she profited off of selling the bodies of young vulnerable women! She’s got no morals whatsoever and publicly sold her own mother out! She’s an awful individual.

Spot on.Everything comes back to this with her every single time. Sometimes people just don’t like you. I’m not denying she hasn’t received abuse and continual injustice because of the colour of her skin. We know this is STILL happening now in our society and it’s horrendous/disgraceful. However, she is doing this a disservice now.

Same applies to Megan Markle. Not denying she hasn’t received a shed load of nasty comments and abuse about her ethnicity. However, many simply don’t like HER. Not everything is about the colour of your skin. Sometimes it’s because you’re a narcissist, opportunistic idiot!

Pimp candy is not an ally to any group. In fact she is anti-women, and her behaviour is damaging to any movement she thinks she represents. I'm not one for holding up women of colour to higher standards of behaviour than white women. But it's inevitable and undeniable that as women of colour we have a responsibility to ourselves, our mothers and daughters and our community to protect our hard fought for, often small, wins. She wants all the support and kudos, but then trashes her own mother, her sister, other black women, Rochelle. Where's the integrity? Pimp candy will always be just that - a pimp.

Thank you! I completely understand now how “playing the race card” is considered a racist comment. I didn’t know before reading the articles that came up when I “punched it into google”.

But whenever I've pointed out that I don't like her and it's nothing to do with her skin colour, I've been called racist because I'm ignoring her skin colour.

She goes through life expecting everything and when she doesn't get it, she says it's because she is black. She is unable to comprehend that people are allowed to not like her. If you tell her you don't like her, or disagree or anything else, then she calls you a racist.

You can't win with her or people like her because they are that narcissistic, they can't see any wrong in themselves.

Completely agree. That is exactly what is wrong with her rise. She had used the colour of her skin to get where she is - it certainly isn’t her talent that has got her there.

Yup. I think when people say she “plays the race card” this is what they are getting at. While that may not be the correct term to use the fact is that no matter what she does wrong , she has and does try to deflect the attention from her own wrongdoings by using her skin colour. If anyone disagrees with her or tries to provide an alternative point of view she says she’s being silenced as a WOC and turns it into a race issue. She does it time & time again. She makes an issue out of her race more than anyone else ever has.

I just did a genuine lol at the thought of Candice presenting a cheese rolling documentary 🤣 I can’t stand her but I would actually pay good money to watch that
I actually think Candice would be amazing selling gold taps, maxi dresses, stick on nails and makeup on QVC. In all seriousness she has all the attributes required to become a QVC presenter with a bit of training. A serious investigative documentary of this nature just because she's 'fully black'? Nope, absolutely not.

Yes I agree, she would suit a certain demographic. All of the women commenting that she was "made for this" clearly have no clue how television works.
