Call the Midwife #3

The pacing of this series has been awful. I remember after a couple of episodes thinking nothing of note has actually happened, then they drop the secret son bombshell and kill him off in the space of one episode! I would much rather have seen them grow their relationship over the course of the series.

the Trixie/Matthew storyline was badly paced too, he went from successful to broke to going to New York in the blink of an eye and the tablets meltdown happened just as quickly.

I agree that Sister MJ needs to go now. And they need to address Lucille not coming back so they can start rebuilding Cyril into a proper character again.

As previous posters have said, it would have been a far more rewarding plot line if Miss Higgins' son had turned up in episode 1 or 2. Long lost son turns up, is welcomed then dies was quite fantastical.

Has Joyce's cousin already been dealt with? I thought Cy-ril and Fred would have banished him, or at least Sister MJ with a broom.

Talking of Fred, he was sick again, nothing came of that I see.

Regards the pacing I do think they treat some storylines very poorly seemingly thinking the audience are unable to cope with stories been stretched beyond 1 or 2 episodes. Last episode where the poor teen had been SA by her stepdad could have worked as a developed plot line focused on when he returned and the effect this had on her. But again tidied up in an episode. Millicent’s son and family at latest should have been introduced in Ep 3 or 4 for it to have the emotional reaction needed.

I agree that Millicent’s son should have been in more than one episode. The story seemed to jump so quickly from him tracing her (and how did he do that in the sixties?), getting ill, dying and being cremated. It would have been much better to let the story unfold over a few weeks.

I wonder if Trixie and Matthew will be back for the next series. It’s been left open ended, but what is the point of sending them to the USA if they’re coming straight back.

I did love the ending with Sister Julienne, it was sentimental tosh but it was lovely.

Even though CTM isn’t at the top of its game, I shall still miss it being on.

I agree with all previous comments about Miss Higgins' son, he should have been written in for the whole series, there would actually have been an emotional reaction, from the audience, to his death. As it stood, we knew nothing of his character and our sympathy with Miss Higgins wasn't what it should be because we haven't seen the relationship develop. They need to doing better, rather than living off its past glories. The only reason I'm watching it is habit

Yep...don't take those nylon stockings that will be melting onto your legs off, just go home and put your jimjams on

did think it odd she just sat Trixie down not even caring nylon had burnt onto her skin. Not sure there would just be superficial burns. Thought it was very twee the mother of the year award going to Sister Julienne, if anything give it to Nurse Crane!
