I was wondering if they would make Cyril and the new midwife, the blond one, attracted to each other and we would have a mixed race relationship although that would be totally acceptable in poplar wouldn't it.
Who was the baby that appeared and everyone was like "ooooh Robert is sooo big now" who the eff is Robert?

Yes, he was definitely getting in there with the oil can.

A lot of the comments on the CTM FB page are from older ladies who seem to adore the show to reminisce, fair enough but they see it all with rose tinted specs and make comments like 'the Turner's are such a lovely family' and 'my mother used to dress me like that and send me down the shop for half a pound of butter' and I almost think the writer has been listening to that crowd far too much. It used to have distinct elements of social history alongside women's stories but now is more like a cutesy soap.

I think the theory that, as soon as one of the actors pisses off Dr Turner then they're written out, needs investigating. Is that what happened to Lucille? It must be a strange way of working as you probably can't criticise as it's her baby as opposed to a team of writers. Shame really.

I don't think that this necessarily that case but I do think it could be a very clicky place to work as in favouritism for the core members of staff. Which can rub up other actors the wrong way which is why they leave and why they tend to do it in-between series.

I have yet to catch up on last night's, but I find it has deteriorated a lot from when it was based on the actual books.
And characters who disappear abruptly do take from it.

Also is there ANYTHING the doc can't cure or find a solution to! I used to think Doc Martin (love him!) knew everything but I think maybe Dr Turner knows even more šŸ˜‰.

If Nurse Crane ever leaves, I'm done with it for good.

Definitely got the feeling they were going there with the way they had him fix her bike (as weird as that sounds lol).
Didn't he meet Lucille when he fixed her car? It must be his pick-up technique. šŸ˜‰

Are we not allowed to mention the ugly, discredited S-word in connection with cerebral palsy, because that was how it would have been referred to in 1969, even by medical professionals. The charity Scope only changed their title from The S******s Society in 1994. I don't blame the programme makers for not using it but I'm one of those nitpicky types who pick up on details, and CTM does pride itself on its realism.

Pretty sure the actress wanted to leave
Yes she did want to leave, I kinda get the favouritism comments but when a cast member quits unexpectedly it becomes a difficult one for the writers to have to come up with a storyline encompassing something entirely different to what was in the pipeline: Lucille and Cyril were in a happy relationship, both liked their jobs, sadly Lucille miscarried but this wouldnā€™t be a reason for her departure surely, if anything the show could go on to a storyline about whether to try and have another baby sooner or later, and coping with that decision whilst carrying out a difficult job.

I think they did strive a bit more for realism in most of the earlier series, possibly while it was based on the books. Not every story ended well, with a nice neat bow tied on top, like it seems to now.

I always noticed that no matter how poor people were, the women giving birth were generally coiffed and well made up. šŸ˜

This made me lol a lot šŸ¤£

So true though, this used to be a good drama with real social history in it and substance, itā€™s now a real twee soap.

I still feel sick from that final scene in the Xmas special with the nativity scene, where they were on stage posing as angels etc and no one was moving, what was that about?! It was so weird šŸ˜‚

I now call the show ā€œCall Dr Turnerā€!
Itā€™s a shame so many characters keep leaving, especially ones Iā€™ve got attached to ( Patsy, Val, Mary Cynthia, Sister Frances) and the storylines are less gritty. The season with the abortion arc was probably one of the darkest one, and the reveal who the backstreet abortionist was a total shock to me.
I donā€™t miss Lucille that much but wish sheā€™d had a proper send-off/an exit that made sense. Iā€™d have punched her if she called me precious while in labour, as well as Trixie calling me sweetie.
Give me more Nurse Crane ( I thought I was going to dislike her in her first episode, she was so bossy!) and Miss Higgins saving the day/being awesome though they are so very different. I would watch a spin-off of them over the the twee Turner family any day of the week.
