Brookside is back!

I’m still behind so it’s maybe been addressed but I’m wondering if Annabelle is maybe menopausal? I guess back then it might have been a taboo that wasn’t to be discussed, and Brookie was setting its stall out as willing to go where other programmes wouldn’t?

I was speaking to a couple of women a few months ago about free period products being available and how good it is that speaking about it nowadays isn’t a big deal. But one of the women is in her 70s and she said she was horrified they were talking about it on Corrie, and she doesn’t think it’s right

That patronising interview that Heather went to:

Interviewer: “What does your husband think Mrs Huntington (about you applying for this job)?”
Heather: “Does this question influence your consideration of my application?”
Interviewer: “We have to ask”
Heather: “Well as you’ve asked, Mr Huntington’s opinion doesn’t arise, we’re separated”
Interviewer: “For good?”
Heather: “We’re separated”
Interviewer: “Thank you. We have to ask”

Why do they have to ask? The patronising 80s where married women shouldn’t be out working unless they get their husband’s permission first 🙄

Annabelle gets her prognosis in this weeks! I think it's good women can talk freely about periods etc, my experience was bleeping awful, got given a book and a sanitary towel, never to be spoken about again.

There’s never any change to Alan’s voice, like he’s reading a long text message with no punctuation! I’m not sure what the point in the character is.

I must’ve missed an episode but what happened to the girl Barry picked up hitch hiking who pretended she couldn’t speak English? One minute she was living with Alan and Paul was chasing her around the garden and the next she’d gone. (I probably answered my own question there, being chased by Paul would make anyone pack up and leave pretty sharpish)
Yes I feel like I’ve missed that too. I feel like it jumped from Christmas prep to New Year’s Eve, unless I’ve missed an episode, but I don’t think I have!

That’s definitely Gizmo in the navy fleece but anyone know the others are? Could that me Ducksie next to him?

Are they skipping episodes. Mine went from marie’s dad at the door at the end of one to him sleeping on the sofa in the next. No in between. Hadnt he been awol for years?? And now he wants the house? Has he rights?

Caught up now. Theres a Will 😂

I just found this thread. I live outside the UK. I'm gutted I cant watch these re-runs. The best soap by a country mile. God I loved Barry Grant back in the day. 🤣

Brookside was shown on Monday & Wednesdays in 1984. What feels like a jump in storyline where you think you’ve missed an episode is because of the big gap between the Wednesday and the following Monday’s episode. Events have probably happened off screen so life on the Close has carried on in those intermittent days so you have to fill in some of the gaps yourself.

Presumably Marie (and Michelle) had a catch up with their dad in those missing days

Ah yeah true.
The dad was annoying tbh. Glad he had a short stint.
I went down a rabbit hole of wiki ing Marie and then George to find out their future storyline too…..

I did too, and the actor who played their dad died a few months later.

Heather was a stunner, my oh always had a thing about her, I used to get really jealous over her!!!

Brookside was first shown on a Monday and Tuesday and an hour omnibus on Saturday at 5.05

I was wrong then although there was a time when it was Monday & Wednesday I think. So an even bigger gap between new episodes from Tuesday to the following Monday
