I managed x4 after what seems, by all accounts, a paltry 5 hours on Gigs and Tours.

Why anyone would spend their Saturday online like that without being a fan I can’t tell. Every hour on the hour the news was saying resale tix at inflated prices would be cancelled.

felt mental when I final got the confirmation page.

Twickets is fan to fan resale, face value, totally legit. The closer the gig gets and people find they can’t go for whatever reason, the more tix appear.

I'd still hold out hope of getting there, a year is quite a long time to be planning ahead.

I remember reading that Robert Smith from The Cure had it so that if tickets to their tour were resold, they could only charge the price they paid for them. He also refused to use Dynamic/Surge pricing and called out Ticketmaster when they used the excuse of fees to charge more. He publicly shamed them online and they had to back down and refund fans. More bands need to publicly call them and other agencies out.

And this is one of the reasons Robert Smith is just brilliant. Love him!

It feels like so many people have done it literally for engagement on their socials. I didn't like them at the time, so I'm not fussed, but even I had Ticketmaster open in the background for about 20 minutes until I thought WTF am I doing? 🤦‍♀️

I never knew about Twickets, so I have signed up and put on two alerts, one for Dublin and one for the UK. The funny thing is is that it’s actually cheaper to hop over to England for a night than to stay one night in Dublin. I’m not from Dublin, so factor in the cost of diesel, tolls, extortionate accommodation, food and drinks etc..
One Ryanair flight, better priced accommodation in UK and you get to travel to another country works out better value.

It is totally.

I had two colleagues, one paid 150 to see Bruce Sprinsteen in Dublin, another paid 80 for the same concert in Barcelona. The Barcelona guy probably paid more overall but he got a mini holiday on the back of it (4 nights I think).

So yeah, if I'm to do the gig thing again I'd look outside of Ireland.

'The Salad Way' had excellent reviews (quite right too, it's a fantastic album) but Covid killed the comeback, sadly. They were due to tour starting the middle of March 2020 and then... blam. Once the interminable lockdowns had ended the momentum had gone and inter-band squabbles and personal issues didn't help. As a side note, Marijne did a series of live listen alongs on Facebook during Covid which are well worth a watch, I think they're still up, though one or two of the songs have been silenced due to FB copyright issues (!!!)

I can say for definite 🍉 (is 'watermelon' just a Jack Monroe thread thing or Tattle-wide? I can never remember) there'll be no reforming any time soon, certainly not in public, but never say never - no line has been drawn in the sand. Meanwhile, Paul is doing his MartPaul project, Charley continues to be in All The Bands as well her own solo stuff, and Marijne recently did a Q&A chat thing in Worthing and sang at Jon Hunt's (last Salad bassist) album launch the other week.

I listened to International Velvet so much that my mum knew all the words to sing along to. I know many will say either Mulder And Scully or Road Rage but to me, their best song is Game On. While it's technically not Catatonia, The Ballad Of Tom Jones that Cerys did with Space is up there too.

An Irish fan of The Cure in the early 80s wrote a letter to Robert Smith, finding out his address through a friend who worked in audio, saying that he was trying to put a band together and just asking for general advice. Robert called him and said he'd love to hear some songs of his when he got them recorded. A year later and having formed a duo called Zerra One, he gets a demo tape to Robert who says that not only were the songs great, but he'd love for them to go on a three month tour with The Cure.

Support acts often get an awful deal from bands, having to buy on to a tour, but Robert told them that they'd be travelling with The Cure in their tour bus, they'd stay in the same hotels, have the same catering, use their lighting and sound engineers - all for free. Plus they'd be paid a fee per night and get daily expenses.

Robert even ended up doing the front of house sound for them after a few nights in, as he felt he could capture their sound better, knowing their songs.

He's deservedly always had a great reputation.

My favourite is International Velvet from the album, the Welsh song. I don’t know what she is saying but I love it.
