I thought there was a make up advice thread but there isn't and as a chapstick (retired) lesbian I'm floundering.

I want to wear lipstick for the first time ever, beard & I have a child free night so we're going for a fancy dinner and I feel like looking a bit less gay than I usually do. Does the colour of your lips affect how lipstick looks on you? What are the best colours & brands? Our Boots & Superdrug don't really have make up counters anymore and if they do, the stations are held by very scary women. I am :) lost.

I'm not worried about applying it, I've watched enough drag queen GRWMs to know what not to do.

I’m probably too straight to be actually good at make up but yes, the colour of your lips and your overall colouring, skin tone etc affect how it looks on you. Nowadays most brands are ‘good’ so it’s really a case of testing out what you like the look of. You can try the likes of elf or nyx on the back of your hand to get a good guide and no need to splurge on the scary make up stations until you’re ready x

Let us know what colour you go for.

I’ve just had a soft boiled egg on a crumpet and it was divine!!!
Help! I think the one on the top looks good but?! I'm so out of my depth. Also yes I have child hands as prev stated am only 4'11

Bit harsh calling our Bison a drag queen 😂.
I’ve never even considered if the colour of our lips effects how the lipstick looks. But I do rember being told concealer/foundation on the lips gives a colour more close to the label or something.

Thanks Bisonettes! Will have a gander today.
Won’t help you today but Aldi lip kits are amazing for the price they last and don’t transfer as easily as some cheap brands.

That's great advice but I've no clue what my colour is for foundation or concealer either 💀 I don't even moisturise I'm tempted to just buy some Cantu and be done with it

@kayefeluu20 not that those colours above don’t look nice (esp the one on the top as you said, I think you’re a little light for those browny ones) but maybe try lip gloss or tinted lip balm if you’re scared of lipstick? It’s not such a strong look and easier to apply and maintain :)

I'm not scared per se but I think you're right, the plunge of lipstick may be too far for this early dive into makeup. I have a plain old lip gloss at home, maybe I'll use that

I think the top one unless you’re very warm toned on your face. I’m typically Celtic but also neutral toned so can theoretically go for warm or cool, but find cool is better as I have dark hair and light eyes.
I am not warm toned, think sickly victorian child. Per Soph's advice I've given it up for now, and will wait for one of my feminine friends to see me and seek their in person counsel. Thanks all for looking after me during this trying time x

Aw no give it a go, you wanted to try it! Just pick a colour you like :) I just meant there are products that aren’t as bold if you’re just beginning to ease into lip colour again 👄

Maybe you could research colour analysis online. I’m currently obsessed with it. Has anyone else done it?
Yeah I’m warm tones- red with an orange tint suits me but not a blue tint :)

I’ve tried to do Becki’s- she’s quite pale but blonde hair suits her better so maybe she’s warm? Think it’s kinda putting lipstick on a pig though 😆
