Best Life and Beyond #106 They're just two hobos with a camera

1
Six months ago, during the graffiti livestream, Katie said she didn’t want to be a Disneyland vlogger anymore and that phase of her life was over. Yet since then, they’ve released over 40 Disneyland vlogs. So, what’s going on? What could possibly be driving her to keep doing something she claimed she didn’t want to do?
Quite simply it’s the views. They tried to pivot away from Disney and it didn’t work so they went back. But did going back help BLAB? Not really.

A timeline…

January - May 2024:
The view counts were okay in their usual 400,000 range. The ratio of Disney to non-Disney content is about even.

June 2024:
Spencer goes back to work and views understandably dip. Content ratio is the same as before. KT at this time posts on IG how she and Spencer don’t want to be Disney influencers.

July 2024:
In the beginning of the month during the graffiti livestream KT doubles down on her stance that they aren’t Disney vloggers and she’s not interested in theme parks. 18 videos get posted, 5 Disney, 13 non-Disney. They are now creating more content away from the parks. However, their views dip to 385,829. Looks like the stans didn't respond well to the change.

August 2024:
Add more Disney! 22 vlogs get posted, half are Disney. View count goes back up to 437,184. Great! They learned their lesson, keep lots of Disney content in the mix.

September - November 2024:
September:
16 videos
9 Disney / 7 non
393,145 views
October:
17 videos
11 Disney / 6 non
360,234 views
November:
15 videos
10 Disney / 5 non
318,500 views

Despite posting mostly Disney content their views dropped and are in a downward trend. Could it be due to viewer fatigue or boredom because of the extra long vlogs? Will this continue? We'll see...

Maybe I'm old fashioned but wearing an unbuttoned dress shirt to a nice restaurant is WRONG. And don't get me started on the hat. I don't care if you are at Disney, take the damn thing off.

When they eat at expensive restaurants they look like they're play-acting as adults.

"Look at us! We're grownups eating here at this fancy restaurant! This is such an adult thing to do! Aren't we sophisticated?"

They look like a pair of emotionally stunted individuals desperate for approval.

He is a big kid no manners.. doesn't know how to be an adult he is dating another kid

They must be losing views because most people don’t want to watch 90 minute vlogs. They don’t even have the time for that. Maybe as background while cleaning or something?

What I don’t know is whether this is somehow gaming the ad system? Do you make more money if fewer people watch but they watch for more time?

If that were the case I think more vloggers would be doing the rambling, pointless, livestream-esque vlogs.

But it is odd that Spencer basically quit editing and as far as I know they never mentioned why. And then why not just livestream? Can’t they turn off chat in a livestream if they’re worried about nasty comments? They use footage from Katie‘s phone I think. So why not just livestream and give up any semblance of creativity or professionalism?

i think it might have something to do with the amount of ad breaks youtube is able to shove into your video, which might get them more money.

if views are down, might as well increase the number of ads to make up for it.

plus, if you mindlessly wander and barely edit, that's less effort you have to put in!

meanwhile...peter from OA posted that 3 of their top 5 videos that were currently being watched were the ones that were over 3 hours long. proving once again that it's not the length of the video that's keeping views away from BLAB, it's the people

The longer the video, the more ad breaks and the higher up the algorithm.

Longer vlogs = Viewership & growth is down. Need to take advantage of the reliable views they DO get by increasing the number of ads those reliable fans might see. For example, imagine your coffee shop was going out of business cuz your customer-base was dwindling. So, in an attempt to save the business, you raise the price of coffee for the few customers you still had.

And of course, the long-winded, meandering vlogs mean less editing - which is the cherry on top for Spence. Also brings him one step closer to mirroring his hero, Mr. Adam T. Woo. Difference is, Woo is generally in a new location rambling about new things. BLAB thinks this same tactic can be rinsed and repeated in a singular location and still hold viewer interest.

Well, if Spencer is going to be mirroring his hero, then he's about to dump KT's fat ass and hook up pay for the companionship of a barely legal Disney Adult.

So what would a quick trip to Tokyo cost them? Five grand? They can’t swing that to “invest” in their “business”? They could make a lot of videos. But he probably would never finish them. It would be a huge amount of work. And who wants to spend days sitting next to her (or him) on a plane for days there and back?
---
Did he ever post a video of him at the Star Wars hotel wearing Ellen’s spare wig? I definitely recall seeing Brickey Mouse’s video (ahem). But I don’t remember seeing his. There is certainly precedent for them to blow a lot on “production costs”, with nothing to show for it. So spending a (very) small fortune on a wild goose chase, with nothing to show for it, would not be at all unBLABprecedented.
---
In general, I don’t get the impression that it’s money that’s holding them back, as such. They are just chronically low-effort individuals. And that’s fine in the case of most people, who also have commensurate low-ish expectations. But don’t these two just seem like they think they deserve the world for nothing?
---
Just obtaining a passport seems like it would be too much effort for her and an insufferable process for him to have to wrangle her through.
---
Meanwhile, brickey may be somewhat of a turn-off to everyone but her, but probably nobody would call his videos low-effort.

I love this summary.

It’s probably the reason why she wears the same clothes every day. Minimal effort.
