ASMR Channels #2

Wow, I just watched nic be brave be you’s catch up video….i actually feel sorry for her son, who she’s home educating (when she can barely string a sentence together herself). Saying he doesn’t have to sit his GCSEs and she’ll encourage him to be a YouTuber!!
That is disgusting. I know nowhere near all home school parents are like this but she's likely just too lazy to take him to school/worried about safeguarding issues being raised if he does go. How old is he?

I had to look up what GCSE means lmao. This is actually really scary. 😬 I might be remembering this wrong because I haven't watched her in a while. Isn't it her daughter who is also autistic?

Not sure how old her son was as that video went on for an hour and half so I skipped a lot!! I have nothing against home schooling, each to their own, but hearing her talk and by her own admission she’s not the sharpest tool in the box so I struggle to believe she could educate and teach her children to the level that they’d need.

She keeps bitching and moaning that she cannot make ends meet, and has to accept sponsorships from companies whose ethics she does not agree with, because she struggles so hard to make a living on Youtube… Why is she then wanting her kid to struggle as well

Maybe like Traazers said. Maybe it’s a matter of effort. A lot of youtube seems like it’s luck or making the right video to make you take you take off. Maybe her fibromyalgia is leaving her with too low of energy and this is an easy solution. I hope not because if that’s the case, just send the kid to school.

She also needs to realise that the reason she doesn't do that well on youtube is because she's just not very good. I've watched her a couple of times but find her general demeanour (and voice, even when trying to be relaxing) so jarring and uncomfortable to watch/listen to. I've therefore not watched her much, especially not her non-ASMR stuff (also as you lot have turned me off the idea by discussing how much of a ghoul she is) and her work on YT is very low effort. She just seems like someone who thinks the world is theirs on a plate and doesn't realise things take talent and hard work, you don't just get millions of followers like magic. It looks effortless but a lot of work goes into the bigger channels work, and that's just talking about ASMR
---
Can she not just get a proper job and do YouTube on the side if things are that tight?
I think she thinks she's above that, like the other one, MinxLaura? They seem to think that doing a low effort video every few days means they deserve adulation and millions of views and followers, but it simply doesn't work like that.

Tony Bomboni is the same way. A couple of weeks ago he did a chit chat asmr video and one of the things he brought up was how he doesn’t do this to be a millionaire. He said something to the effect of even though people who started doing asmr after him have become millionaires, that’s not why he does it. But you can tell he thinks that just because he was one of the first ones to start doing asmr and he does put out daily videos that he should have more followers, more views, and more money.
The thing with him, is that his asmr is all over the place. His massage videos do very well but those are few and far in between. He puts out random content and then sometimes he just does something like organize his kitchen and calls it asmr.
He, like Be Brave Be You, is very entitled.

He also bangs on at the start of all his videos about only being able to make them because people pay for customs, readings etc. which is stupid, if you're not making money from just putting ASMR vids out there, get a job and do it as a hobby. Nobody is forcing you to do this as your life and post a video a day, which obviously isn't paying, hence having to do stuff outside YT.
I've listened to/watched him a couple of times but he's as you say all over the place and veeeery low quality production, which is fine, but is quite old school in ASMR, most artists move on from the phone camera style content pretty quick.

I think you can kind of tell anyone doing it as "a job" because the content is a lot more regular and therefore misses the mark a lot more. It feels like a lot of artists have seen the mad success of a few and are trying their best to replicate that, which just isn't possible en masse, especially with something as personal as ASMR. Everyone has totally different triggers and likes and more importantly dislikes, which means it's really hard to grab the whole "market" as such at once, which I believe is one reason there's only a handful of bigger artists who are followed by most of the "ASMR community". Luck is also involved, of course.
You can kind of tell with the mass content out there that a lot of people doing it to make some spare money, rather than for the craft and as a genuine hobby, and the overall quality of content suffers from that too.

This is a really interesting take! I am wondering what you (all) think about asmrtists like Lizi and Celaine who post multiple times per week but tend to have a more loyal audience? I sometimes feel like they’re more sort of “manufactured” type of asmr but I do think they’re good too. Definitely in the “job” category I think.

I don't watch Celaine because I don't care for fast asmr but Lizi is mid to me. I think she uploads way to often and it is making her asmr suffer for it.

I don't actually know either of these two but with that description I did think of people like Whispers ASMR and Gentlewhispering, if that's the vibe you mean? I feel like this about these two too (on the "it being a job" thing) as they put out really good consistent content but do seem to be scrambling for ideas a lot of the time which means they miss the mark. My absolute favourite creators just create when they feel like it, which is annoying in a way but I prefer the authenticity and do tend to find 99% of their videos are fantastic, rather than like 60% of the regular weekly posters

I agree with these two. I used to watch every video from GW but in the last two years haven’t been as dedicated to her because a lot of her ideas just aren’t it for me. I actually miss her older content from years ago. It seemed a lot more sincere and natural. Now it feels like she is just talking slow and taking up time with hand movements and tapping etc which I think feels forced or at least for me, makes it feel less immersive.

I find a lot of them have Spotify so I listen on there
I've had to stop watching ASMR on YT because there's ads at the end of videos so often now and it wakes me up. I can't afford premium right now, how does everyone else deal with this? I'm having to play old video audio on Spotify :(

Came across sleepy keys ASMR the other day - she does 80/90s style teleshopping videos. The way she talks and the objects she shows really get the dating just right. I saw a short video she did where she was going through various heavy metal band T-shirts and it was a POV: your mom trying to convince you to let her buy you a new wardrobe for school - it was so good, and for me, really the essence of what makes good ASMR.
I love a haircut or head massage role play, but for me the best ASMR is the stuff that reminds me of triggers I got as a kid before I realised what the sensation actually was.
Would recommend checking her out, very therapeutic!

Just had a quick listen, I've subscribed! She's certainly got the filters and effects spot-on.

I’ve found a trigger I didn’t know I had. A man with a Birmingham accent 😂😂 I cannot cope with how relaxed this account makes me. Not every video I grant you but I love the tone and speed of his voice.
