That's horrible. Is your manager always like that? Making out they are the only ones doing it all, braving out illness because of others genuine health problems and their time off. Sounds like a bit of a narc and to feel you have to prove your own illness and hospital admission, yet, feel guilty for doing so is awful. It must feel stressful and you shouldn't have to feel, or be made to feel like that.I have a manager who has been ill with a cough for a few wks, we’ve been telling them to see their GP but nope won’t go because they are oh so busy working picking up everyone else’s slack, pisses me off, I had to have a few days off back in March, was in hospital & the guilt I felt was awful, I even took pictures to prove I was in hospital & showed my manager my discharge letter too, I went back to work still in pain because I felt I would be talked about if I didn’t, my dad has terminal cancer, I just carry on as best I can because I don’t want to let my team down. Come home & have a little cry to myself. Sorry for the rant.
I had a boss like that once, I was his PA. One day, I went in early, cleared my office and left as my job had a serious impact on my mental health. I eventually found another job I was happy in.
A good boss should never make anyone feel guilty or awkward. None of us are invincible, perfect, robotic 'beings'.
I'm really sorry to hear about your Dad, please look after you and yours. Never feel guilty, you have a lot on your plate and work should recognise and be supportive of that. Hugs, A xxx
PS: Never apologise for ranting
This is a friendly support, off topic chat thread and we are hear to listen and have a natter xx
