The “Web sleuth community” are not all bad, after all, they helped in bringing Luka Magnotta to justice.
yeah that documentary really gave them all a bad name, they didn't seem to want to help her family get closure/justice (like web sleuths should be doing) it just seems like they were doing it for their own interest

It’s like the sandy hook tit, and to an extent 9/11,
no regard for the families left behind and how difficult it must be to see these theories presented as facts.
With 9/11, there would never be any theories passed as facts, as that would incriminate the Bush administration, but, there was a very interesting story about a woman called Tania Head, (and this isn’t a CT!!). Tania became the President of the 9/11 Survivors Organization, until it was discovered that she wasn’t even in the country when it happened!
Her story is absolutely mental, and I’d never heard about it until recently!!

Omg. Is that the woman who pretended to be in the tower? - just checked and it seems so. I read that story last year and it is mad. https://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/27/nyregion/27survivor.html

there is a good documentary about this on youtube called something like "the woman who wasn't there" I stumbled across it and was so shocked!

Her? Luka Magnotta murdered his Chinese boyfriend. Do you know the story about him? He was the guy who was posting extremely sick videos on the net, and a group of web sleuths managed to track him down to Germany, where he was arrested for murder. They actually helped catch a killer!!

sorry I meant the Cecil hotel one did! yes I have heard of this case, so crazy, this is what I mean they can obviously be really good, the Cecil documentary just showed the really bad side

Yes, that’s her. I honestly couldn’t believe that she got away with it for so long!! The documentary about her and what she did is fascinating and very disturbing. What on earth would make someone do what she did?? Apparently, she met with the family of that young man (red bandanna) he rescued so many people, and sadly died from his own injuries, and his family hold a yearly remembrance service for him (and the survivors he rescued) and this woman, actually had the nerve to speak at one of these services. I think she ended up going back to Spain, not much is heard about her now.

and it was just so insane how she kept putting herself more and more in the public eye, making up more claims/stories etc. I don't understand how she thought she would never have been found out

Tania Head isn't a CT, she was a total con artist. There was another one who claimed to be a victim in the Paris attacks and was looking at a jail sentence.
I know she wasn’t a CT, but when I first heard the story, I initially thought she was. Yes, you’re absolutely right, she was a dreadful person who thankfully was caught out.

I know, it’s insane how EASY it was for her to do it. If you’ve never seen the documentary about the whole saga, its definitely interesting, and very very shocking!!
I’m going to grab my coat and get back on the CT thread before you guys kick me out!! 😬. Thanks for having me!!

Noone is kicking you out, you are welcome to stay. I saw the documentary, it was awful how many people she fooled and hurt.

Web sleuthing can get out of hand - Reddit (or 4chan? maybe both) thought they'd caught the Boston bomber - a missing student.

It turned out later he had nothing to do with it obviously and he'd already committed suicide, hence why he was missing, but the pain it caused his family was tremendous. I think there were some people harassing the family members online, accusing them of covering for him.

Regarding the Cecil doc -

I remembered the video around at the time and the outcome of the case, not much else though. Like people said, those 'internet sleuths' were the worst part about it. I don't believe they were emotionally invested in her as a person for a second, they were just out to air their own views and get bigger followings at the time. Far too much of the documentary time was given to them to ramble on. I think this made me not like it as much. Would have liked to have learned more about Elisa's life - instead they just inserted random bits throughout the documentary. If they'd have kept it to Elisa, history of the hotel, history of skid row and the investigation I would have preferred it. It was just your typical flashy netflix overly padded documentary that they're churning out on a monthly basis these days. I do think it was an all or nothing trip for her - her illness got the better of her and it ended in tragedy.

I think it can get very out of hand because I imagine it must attract a shitload of bandwagon jumpers who will read a small piece of (mis)information and then start falsey accusing an innocent person. Like vigilantes who don't know the difference between paedophile and paediatrician who then provoke a doctor's house to get firebombed.

yeah, really once they have this information they should hand it over so it can be investigated by authorities before they start making any kind of accusations

The CT thread here jumps from theory to theory, anti-vaxxers to kidnapped children being delivered like pizzas, to the Pope being arrested (by the FBI, no less, wonder how that's going?🤣) to the Queen replaced by an imposter, to China controlling us all via pandemic restrictions, Bill Gates tracking us, and in the meantime some poor souls are drawn in and end up terrified because they received a very necessary inoculation! It's immoral.

And oh my, the videos they cluster round, squawking with excitement at the 'truth' being exposed. A severe lack of critical analysis skills in evidence. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Still, if it's in the Daily Mail, they'll assume it's accurate. 🙄🤣

It’s the way they all post thanking each other profusely for being supportive and sharing the truth. 😳

It’s the type of tit I imagine Jim Jones’s victims celebrated before they enjoyed the Kool Aid.

I just had a wee looksie at the CT thread and it’s a nope for me. I’m away to patiently will the next week away until I get my covid jab. And become a robot lizard.
