So here I am ladies, out of curiosity, I watched yet another video of Anna "
10 Things Elegant Ladies NEVER Wear To Work". As always, I had to make my ears and braincells suffer again in enduring Anna's unpleasantly loud voice with roller coaster-like intonation. Initially, I don't want to bother watching that video of hers because realtalk, she is not qualified enough to discuss everything about corporate setting. Besides, she even once said that she hated 9-5 jobs, right? And speaking of 9-5 jobs, I am thinking about primarily office administrative positions, human resources, accounting, marketing, BPO operations, government offices, marketing, IT etc.
That being said, if ONE hates a 9-5 job, then ONE should NOT have the nerve to talk about office attire.
While I agree to some of the points in the video --- that wearing sheer outfits that shows your underwear, too skimpy, too body-hugging dresses, backless, cropped blouses, shows too much cleavage is improper. What irks me on that video is her neverending hate on jeans and too casual outfit. Not too mention that she is over-the-top conservative.
As for sleeveless tops/dresses, apparently, in a BPO company I am working at, the ladies who happened to hold highest positions (both our local and Australian/American/British/Canadian bosses alike) sometimes wear sleeveless, and that excludes spaghetti-strapped ones, and if they do wear those, even halter tops/dresses, assymetrical tops/dresses, they top it with a cardigan or blazer.
Also, it is NOT illegal to wear open-toe shoes or sandals. First, depends on the company you work for. Second, if your company or a building where your company is situated at, prohibits any lady from wearing sandals with no backstraps, then you cannot wear those and especially, flipflops.
Another thing that one needs to consider, is the weather/season, depending on a country you live in. If it is stormy outside and you are required to report to office, it is IMPRACTICAL to wear powersuits and high heeled pumps because once you arrive in the office, you might end up tripping on the floor because your pumps are soaking wet in water due to heavy rains. That's why, during those seasons, some employees are allowed to wear T-shirts, jacket, cropped jeans and flipflops. Those are the safest ones to wear especially you have to walk or commute your way to work, as not all working people are owning cars.
Another thing I hate on her video is how she used someone's outfit as basis for promotion. Granted, what you wear shows respect to your employer but you are being assessed MORE about THE NUMBERS you and your staff generate for the company and by extension, to your client. You are being assessed MORE about the breakthroughs and changes you have made for the department or company which lead to further growth, MORE than just the eHLehghUNt outfits you wear in the office. If you happened to be working for a BPO company, well, what the clients will be looking for from you is THE NUMBERS you generate and also, your critical thinking skills. We all know ladies how CRITICAL THINKING is
bleeping important in everyday lives which can save us from being exploited or scammed upon. We have our colleagues who got promoted as Team Leaders, Operations Managers, Senior Operations Managers, General Managers, VPs and yet they DO NOT NORMALLY WEAR TYPICAL CORPORATE OR OFFICE OUTFITS. Most of our leaders in our workplace wear just collared T-shirts or typical T-shirts, jeans and sneakers.
Another thing I would like to mention though, even our leaders and managers are sporting tattoos on their arms, nape, or even their shins, and those tattoos are NOT even covered.
I can't help but ridiculing Anna again for preaching about what to wear in an office setting since she herself were not seen wearing powersuits. I strongly believe that she herself never got promoted to any higher position in a corporate setting since, again, she hates 9-5 job. She even got fired from her work after discovering she is NOT skilled at things like Spanish proficiency. I can't help but assuming how clueless-as-
duck Anna is as far as office-related operations are concerned.
