Ah, yes. This event reminds me of my time in Miami Beach. Lots of EE people, men AND women, would go through such a thing for visa privileges due to the strict immigration laws in the USA. They made good money in the tourism/service industry and it would be deprimental to them to suddenly have to go back to their country. It was usually done months before their visas were due to expire.
I was always invited to such things, to make it seem like there were more invitees, but I was too busy working and never made it to one.
The clue to spot these types or arrangements is in the guest list ratio (lack of family members versus abundance of people you only party with).
I myself got married during the pandemic. We managed to spend well over $50,000 on a small garden wedding.
I had no guests from my side because everyone is in the US and the wedding in Asia, but I PAID a streamer to broadcast my event so that everyone abroad could participate, virtually, through YouTube ($300). This was fairly easy to set-up and trending during the pandemic.
Now back to Miami...
These arrangements usually cost the solicitor a large upfront fee or deposit, followed by monthly payments.
If the act benefits both parties, there would still be some sort of payment made as reassurance for the risk involved.
The "couple" would have to make one of their homes look like they live together in case immigration officers paid a visit to confirm the validity of the marriage.
I am not saying that Anna had an arrange wedding, only that it looks eerily similar to those arranged marriages in Miami Beach.
