Never in my life have I experienced a friend offering to sell me a book they've already read? Exchanging books for free is something strangers do, let alone friends.

Exactly! People replied pointing this out, saying that many people give things away to strangers on Facebook Marketplace or buy nothing groups. She got annoyed about that too, because she is Obviously aware of that 🙄🙄🙄

Is someone not wanting or being financially able to give you money for blog posts an abusive relationship? This is a wild take

I know she's actively telling me to unfollow, but I can't look away from the car crash. If she feels so abused, maybe just leave socials? She's said enough times it would make her life happier. I'd love to know if this almighty bollocking is actually translating into any new subscriptions...I'd also love to know if she practices what she preaches and is subscribed to all the people she follows who offer more content behind a pay wall.

Aja is completely unhinged. She needs therapy. She's clearly a deeply unhappy and troubled person that shouldn't be on social media let alone making it her job.

Does she not realise that most people aren't subscribed to Substacks? That they're most likely reading them for free? She comes across as so entitled, as if she's owed a living just because she chose to put herself online and (apparently) "work" for free (what does she actually do though, apart from scream at people all day long?)

I hope people listen to her advice and unfollow in droves. I can't imagine her words have gone down well with many of her followers who may be feeling the cost of living crisis.

The sooner she fucks off the better, for her own sake as much as everyone else’s

Years ago I followed her because I liked her takes on sustainability after I was getting sick of 'sustainability' influencers ignoring the issue of consumption. But since then, like someone said above, it's been like watching a car crash. She genuinely seems unwell. The idea that her Instagram followers are exploiting/extracting free labour is an absolutely wild take, especially when you consider that the only reason she can get paid sponsorships with brands like Mejuri is because she has 200k+ followers.

She's terminally online and she desperately needs to step away and get some help. Not trying to diagnose, but her behaviour honestly seems like paranoia and delusion (e.g. convinced everyone is out to get her and exploit her, the defensiveness and arguments, the long rambling posts). Just last night she posted an "example" of one of her followers that was exploiting her, and it's screenshots of DMs from a woman who appears to be also a bit unhinged and obsessive. But the reality is, if you have hundreds of thousands of followers, there's always gonna be a weirdo in your DMs messaging you everyday thinking they're your friend. This experience is not unique to Aja and one crazy lady in your DMs is not evidence that all your follower base is exploiting you for free labour.

I unfollowed her years ago. I don’t know if anyone remembers Lucy and Yak gate where they did a series of apologetic videos due to her vitriol. Their brand grew massively very quickly and she slammed them for the fit and range of their plus size items. I was intrigued and then all I saw was her constantly slamming ‘white ladies’ as a blanket statement and no nod to any form of intersectionalism. She’s absolutely vile and I unfollowed her for that reason. She has no idea about people’s financial status or background whether white or black!!! People consume her videos because she chose to create an online platform. No one owes her tit and the sooner she realises that the better.
