00s nostalgia #3

I've got about 50 copies of Heat magazine from 2005-2008 and I'm never sure whether to keep them or get rid. I kind of have a love hate feeling towards them as i love the nostalgia, but the size zero 'she's too fat' 'she's too skinny' articles were so damaging to me growing up.

Tbf the magazine came with a toy. Pretty sure you got a stable that you built over time. My sister had it, but I wasn’t the favourite child so had to make do with a cheaper magazine.

Those sort of magazines were never cheap, even the cheaper ones were more expensive than just buying a toy lol

I absolutely loved magazines growing up. Crazy to think this has all been replaced by TikTok. As a kid I loved Girl Talk, Dig it, and Animals and you. Then as I got older it was all about Top of the Pops and Smash Hits (using the lyrics to sing the songs as the music videos played on The Hits and TMF like I was in a church ). Shout, Sneak, Sugar and Bliss. The headlines on Sugar and Bliss were soo raunchy at the time and I swear I got a LOT of my sex education from that. It was about Year 6 when girls in my class started reading Sugar and it seemed just so mature I asked my Dad if he could buy me a copy, and I remember him looking at the cover and being like uh....NO.

When I was at work last week, all of a sudden I started singing in my head "I like horses, best of all the animals. I like horses, they're my friends". I have no idea why it came to my head as I wasn't doing anything that would trigger that memory
I had to Google what it was as I thought it was a toy but it was for a magazine (one that I never ever brought! )

I sing this regularly and nobody has a clue what I’m on about. My eldest does horse riding and rolls his eyes every time

Jesus Christ, I had hundreds of Bliss, Sugar, and Sabrinas Secrets, could have made a mint if I kept hold of them

On a similar note, I just sold a few old late 90s-early 00's ps1 games. Got £70 for Silent Hill selling to Cex

The Daily Star still has them but they’re not as raunchy as they used to be. My father-in-law likes the Daily Star for the sport section…
