Your favourite scary/spooky movies

I was curious what movies people enjoy/find scary.

I was just watching the newest Halloween and for me I can't find it scary as I can't buy into the fact that Michael myers can't/never dies. I enjoy them as an easy watch but just not scary. I also don't find overly gross of graphic films scary, just gross.

I love the slasher movies of the 90s, especially with a whodunit edge

Scream 1 to 3
I know what you did last summer (and sequel)
Urban Legend

For spooky/creepy Sleepy Hollow is a must, classic Tim Burton and balances scares and fun. Also like Shutter Island.

The early paranormal activities really got me and there are movies on Netflix called Creep (and its sequel) which scared me.

For fun it's got to be Hocus Pocus (and also enjoyed its sequel)

I'm a massive horror fan but I have to admit no books or films have ever scared me (I'm massively in to true paranormal so fiction has never scared me)
My favourite horror film of all time is the original 1978 halloween.
I also like the original 1980 the fog, scream, final destination to name a few.
Fun horror films for me is beetlejuice little shop of horrors and haunted mansion.
The only film that whilst didn't scare me but played on my mind after was silence of the lambs.

I'm looking forward to watching the new Halloween film but I feel the same about MM never dying. I read an interview where the (writers/producers - one of those) said they had no plans to kill him off or stop making the films as they're still so successful after all of these years that it makes sense to continue. I do love how the films fork off from each other though. Laurie will have a son in one film and then all of a sudden have a daughter in another film because the films aren't related and the writers don't care. It's a great franchise purely for that IMO 😂

If you haven't seen it, Slasher is quite a good series. Seasons 1-3 are on Netflix but 4 is only on Shudder so I haven't seen it.

I found Hush (on Netflix) creepy. It's along the home invasion lines but the victim is deaf.

I agree that 90s slashers were great! Scream the TV series isn't bad for the ones available on Netflix. It's not amazing but for a teen slasher series trying to live up to the films, it's decent. I didn't think much of the last season that isn't on Netflix. Looking forward to Scream 6 but it will be weird without Neve.

I like supernatural/ sci-fi or slasher horror. Love stuff like Halloween, Alien, Scream, jeepers creepers, the ring, 28 days later, orphan, wrong turn, the others, cabin fever, cabin in the woods etc. I’ll watch most things but stuff like Saw doesn’t interest me

I really enjoy the conjuring movies, the first one is by far the best! Genuinely scary. That scene in the basement where the mum is possessed is terrifying.

I love the music to Halloween more than the film itself!!
But the first 15 mins of Scream, I still think is one of the scariest things iv ever seen! And Drew Barrymore was perfect in the part.
I always enjoy the first Paranormal activity and I think The conjuring is scary too.
Attack on Precinct 13 (the original) has a really creepy atmosphere to it. I always enjoy watching Silence of the lambs and the original Ring and find them both super creepy.
I don't like things like Saw or Hostel. I think films like that go too far, but I know they have been result successful and alot of people enjoy them.

Blair Witch always sticks in my mind, maybe because of the way it was launched as actual 'found footage'.

Anything supernatural really, some great films already mentioned. The haunting in Connecticut creeped me out but got terrible reviews at the time!.

Love The Descent, the first conjuring film, most things produced by A24 studios/Ari Aster
The Others with Nicole Kidman is still one of the scariest 12 rated films out there.
X was a good recent horror and want to see Smile.
Drag me to hell by Sam Raimi is a good horror/comedy

I watched Terrifier the other night, safe to say I didn’t sleep well after watching it. I was getting visions of him standing there in my room 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’ve heard the new one is meant to be worse, people feeling sick from watching it at the cinema and apparently someone fainted

i read about this movie on Reddit and after reading a very detailed comment on how he kills a girl in the sequel I know I will never watch this movie 🤣 I hate gore stuff tbh

Just watched Terrifier 2 a couple of nights ago, a much better film than the first with well written characters and a more coherent plot. The lead actress is fantastic. A little bit too long at 2hrs 18 mins. It takes place at Halloween and has a great Autumn vibe to it.
Art the clown is both hilarious and utterly terrifying in it, the gore is off the charts (some very mean spirited kills) and the entire film has a dreamlike quality to it. Very unique.

Spoorloos - The Vanishing. There's no paranormal element, in fact not much happens after the initial drama. But by far the most terrifying film I've ever seen.
