Winter Olympics 2022 - Beijing

They need to raise the competition age for adult figure skating. What's happening to these girls at Sambo 70 is so wrong. They are retiring, their bodies wrecked, while still in their teens. Already it's being said that Valieva's career is over - she won't see another Olympics as she'll be TOO OLD at 19. She'll be replaced by the next 15 year old. Ugh!

I see the IOC president has spoken out about the aftermath of yesterdays competition - and in particular Eteri's behaviour towards Valieva.

MY COUSIN IS BRINGING HOME AN OLYMPIC MEDAL!

Anywaaay I found the figure skating yesterday really upsetting to watch. It was cruel to expect a 15 year old who has been caught up in a huge media frenzy through no fault of her own to go out on that ice and perform to the best of her ability. She should have been disqualified and allowed to go home and be with her family. She just totally fell apart and it was a difficult watch. I really hope there's a serious investigation in to her coaching team and that she is able to move past this and return in four years time. Something needs to change in the culture of the sport as what has happened to Kamila is not OK and the governing body need to step up and ensure other children aren't failed in the same way.

Who is your cousin?!?!?!

I'm so so so happy both men and women into curling finals 🥌🥌🥌

What’s crazy is that the Youth Olympics exists for 14-18 year olds, so there really is no reason to have these girls skating at such young ages. I understand that the Youth Olympics are probably not as prestigious but still

Ive seen a lot of people praise Sasha (the silver medalist) for landing five quads - apparently the same amount Nathan Chen landed! Yet no one is really talking that she’s probably been able to do that only because of doping also

edit - some people on Reddit have been looking at the new juniors who may be joining Sambo 70. There’s a 13 year old who has landed a quad already, so I really wonder just how wide spread doping is among the Russian teams in general

I think the dye was cast once they got rid of figures back in 1990, which led to the emphasis on the free programme and jumps. If you look at ladies skaters from that era, they weren't beanpoles, because having some weight gave you some control over the blade during figures. Granted, there were issues with judging as per, but figures gave them the foundation to execute their skills. For all the bitching people made about how long it would take for skaters to rise through the ranks, at least they had time to mature, get accustomed to the senior ranks. They changed the scoring system which was just window dressing and turned it into a points accumulating exercise. When I watched the Russian girls I felt nothing; it was a glorified jumping contest to music. I have never felt so disenchanted with skating in my life.

Yes the women in the ice dance are actual women, largely, it seemed. No jumps and all that. I prefer watching that as jumps just make me tense.

My nerves are shot to pieces with this game. Can really see how well matched the teams are it’s just been so close throughout. Some excellent shots played.

I'm gonna be heartbroken for the GB guys if they lose. They've done so well all tournament. And I just want them to get the gold.

But I don't think they are gonna get it.

I was watching on the iPad so guess it was a bit behind so the team GB app alert came through to say we’d won silver before I saw the last shot 🤦🏼‍♀️

What a game, sweden just were not going to let it go and I think it's fair to say they won well and the skip deserved his gold!

For the boys first ever Olympics to come 2nd is a huge achievement and they have many more Olympics ahead of them they should be really proud!

Did anyone see the interview with one their dads after his comments were shocking he was so cold!!

Well done to the GB lads! 🥈
The curling final was so tense. I kept forgetting to breathe out.
I didn't see the interview, who's dad was it?
I did see Bobby Lammie's mum in the pub with tables of what looked like a cracking buffet lined up for all the people they know. Nuff respect Mummy Lammie. 👍😄

The whole interview was really awful I appreciate he is disappointed but they still won a silver at their first olympics! This was towards the end

There's no need for that at all is there? He should have said he didn't want to be interviewed rather than make himself look like a bell end on national TV.
Has Grant got a partner to give him a hug when he lands back in Scotland? He could probably do with an alternative option for emotional support!
