Just setting up a poll for this because imo spoilers are being overused on here and it stifles conversation.

Generally spoilers on a forum are used for something that's hasn't been broadcast and is a leak.

On your own socials you would warn for spoilers as it's shown to people without warning.

But on a forum you have to click into a topic to read so people know exactly what they're getting. I wouldn't click to read a thread until I've watched all the episodes that have been broadcast / are available.

I've seen a few people moan about spoilers after they clicked in a thread to read it, which doesn't seem fair to me.

Interested what people think as there seems to be spoilers always used for any spoilers at the moment, not sure how this came about?

I hate people using the spoiler when it's something mega off topic. I get it happens sometimes but some threads are murder for it and the spoiler will be say the name of a specific medication which defeats the purpose 😂😂

Glad you've done this thread - I think we're all trying to be super polite and not spoil it for everyone else but actually it's really annoying!

I personally won't visit the thread of any shows I'm in to until I've seen the latest episode and I think probably a lot of people are the same 🤷‍♀️

Sometimes I check tattle TV threads when a new TV series/drama is out. I just read the first few posts to see if it's going to be worth watching. It does give man an idea. Like The lost daughter TV thread. I really wished I had read that first 🤣 It would've saved me from watching.. I don't mind spoilers on the TV threads for the reason I just gave. Some people like to read a thread to see if the TV programme is worth watching or to get a feel for it. I do understand that I could have the ending ruined by reading all the posts. I try to glance over them. I just don't get them on the celeb threads.

I follow a few threads where shows air on a weekly basis but generally air in the US before the UK. I mostly avoid the threads until after the show has aired in the UK, but I do think it's helpful if spoilers are used after the show has first aired in the US but before it has aired anywhere else - mainly because I often don't know when the show is airing in the US.

I use them only if I've binged a show really quickly after coming out. Normally only one comment anyway. Then I'll wait a bit and just talk about it normally. I don't think they need to be every other post though, everyone knows there is a risk when clicking on a thread

Definitely if it hasn't been broadcast yet but I tend to use them for a day or two after it has been broadcast just to give people a chance to see it. Not everyone can watch at the point of broadcast.

However, I see people put things in spoilers that is just them guessing what might happen ... i don't think that is necessary.

I think it's a bit daft to complain about finding out things if you've purposely clicked on to read the thread. I deliberately don't look at threads for TV series I'm watching until I know I'm up to date. It takes forever to read some threads with the constant clicking on spoilers.

It's down to the reader to decide if they want something spoiled or not. It's silly to suggest people should use spoilers on a forum dedicated to a TV show.

For me I think once something has aired in the UK, it’s fair game. I guess it’s more complicated when things that air weekly on terrestrial television are released all at once to stream, I’ve not binge watched all of The Tourist to enjoy having a Sunday night drama instead.

I do think it’s reader beware though, I’ve avoided looking at the Yellowjackets thread this week because I didn’t want to see anything about the finale 🌚

I initially misread the question and opted for option number 2 but I changed it to 1 (for some reason I misread it as “spoilers being included in thread titles 🤔)

I don’t think this should be a blanket rule though, and there needs to be common sense applied. I haven’t yet seen the new Scream film so wouldn’t click on any thread specifically about that but I would be upset if I clicked on (for example) a “horror films” thread and someone had given the plot/ending away with the excuse “well, it’s been out for ages now so it’s not really a spoiler any more”.

I hate streaming for that very reason. It’s killed off any conversation for me because I’m not the type of person to watch 24 episodes of a show in one weekend and then move onto the next.

It also pissed me off when I watched Hollyoaks that the Metro used to frequently have articles like “Shock exit for X as they DIE in Hollyoaks Fire!” as the article HEADLINE, when it had just aired on First Look E4 which is one episode ahead of the normal Channel 4 airing.

It does seem like shows like SaTC/AJLT, released on a weekly basis, are generating more chat for longer than shows where episodes are released all at once.

This is true. By all accounts, the reviews/reception to AJLT have been mostly negative. I haven’t watched a single episode, nor of SATC, but the only reason I know that is because it has been constantly in the news/chat forums/websites etc on a weekly basis and I have seen the reaction for myself whereas if it was all released at once it would have been a burst of negative reaction and then gone. I honestly can’t understand the motive for TV companies to release things in this way, even traditional broadcasters like Channel 4 now air a first episode of something and then make them all available at once. I don’t get it, it doesn’t keep the interest going or keep the show in the news. The last big blockbuster show I remember people raving about was Game of Thrones and I bet it wouldn’t have got half, or even 75% of the buzz it got if it had released a season as a whole rather than a global week by week episode.

Agreed! I loved looking forward to the next episode airing and discussing it at work the next day because we were all watching at the same pace.

However, now I get annoyed on those occasions because I have to wait and can't binge. Lockdown definitely made a difference to that.
