What were your favourite movies as a child?

We all have those films we watched over and over until the VHS broke right?

mine were

The Secret Garden
Hocus Pocus
Practical Magic
Jumanji
The Nightmare Before Christmas

I would still say all of these are some of my favourite films to this day! I recently watched The Secret Garden again on Netflix and it was pure magic.

I LOVED the secret garden too and didn’t know it was on Netflix! I haven’t seen that since my age was a single digit for sure (30 now ) but that was definitely a video I played repeatedly. I also had and loved the ’book of the film’ , the easy read version with a selection of stills in the middle pages ,as opposed to the actual book, do they still make those?
I think I responded strongly to the story because my mum died when I was young like hers does and my dad is called Colin like the cousin . You know how you grasp at that sort of thing when you’re really little, completely illogically, like ‘is this young boy in the film supposedly called Colin and living in the past also my dad ?’ I didn’t think he was, but I wasn’t sure ...😂

I love this thread idea anyway. Let me think of some more for another post , I’m sure I’ll have loads.

ohhh it’s beautiful! Much like The Secret Garden. The books are written by the same author so they have some similarities. I think both films are great adaptions!! A Little Princess is harder to find on streaming services though which is annoying. I think you might be able to rent it from amazon though

The Wizard of Oz
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (Gene Wilder not Johnny Depp)
Home Alone 1&2
FernGully: The Last Rainforest
Thumbelina
Disney’s Alice in Wonderland and Sleeping Beauty
Basically any Disney movie but especially:
- Aladdin
- The Little Mermaid
- Beauty and the Beast (those were new when I was very little)
Escape to Witch Mountain
Labyrinth
The Princess Bride
Grease
Dirty Dancing
Honey I Shrunk the Kids
The Parent Trap
The Land Before Time
The Nightmare Before Christmas

Thanks I’m going to have to try and find it because I did enjoy the secret garden!....’the spores!!!’ Such wonderful films back then

I also LOVE The Secret Garden and watched it on repeat as a child. Still love it now. Also, A Little Princess - not many people have seen that in comparison!

Also:

- Mrs Doubtfire, Now and Then, Stand by Me, Casper, Theres Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber, Billy Elliot, The Goonies, The Princess Bride... there is tons more 😂. I love movies and probably rewatch most of the above about once a year!
