A general thread for any kind of weather, because there does seem to be alot of it about!

At least with this cold snap some snow is being predicted for next week (and not on the mountains!).

The floods at the start of the year and weeks of storms have been forgotten by many but storm Bella is coming in a few hours, stay safe everyone.

I don't have anywhere to go till Tuesday so I'm good.
Well even down here in the south east snow is predicted on Monday and minus the next day so Tuesday may be an issue for some.

2020 ending in the only way it can - the storm last night took out a tree outside our house and brought down the telephone line and therefore Internet. It'll take them 7 working days to send someone out to fix it 👍🏻 Good job we don't need the Internet to work from home or anything 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️

Still no snow for me here :(

There's talk of a "Sudden Stratospheric Warming" which brought in the best from the east apparently a few years ago. Looking like it's going to be cold for the next few weeks, so more chance of snow 🤞

There is also a continued signal from model guidance of a Sudden Stratospheric Warming occurring in early January – which could allow high latitude blocking weather patterns establishing later in January that could bring a prolonged cold weather pattern for the UK.

In other words, "It's winter". Why is this even news?

Maybe don't click on a weather thread if you're not interested in the weather 😆

The last time it happened it bought the coldest weather for nearly 100 years for many places, of course a weather website will make news on weather patterns.

I'm not having a pop at you, just these weather websites who routinely issue "severe weather warnings" that basically state the bleeding obvious such as the one on your link. We know there's a chance it might snow in January, it happens every year!

Dunno, there's not been snow in January where I live since 2010, maybe light dusting of snow. The only proper snow was 2010 then beast from the east so it definitely doesn't happen every year

I'm still trying to make this thread a thing 😆

I think with covid the ever changing extream weather doesn't get much attention.

Places in California not going below 42c during the night recently. Records are being broken all the time and so many of these 1 in 100'000 year events keep happening. The flash floods in Europe, the cold snap in Texas. What will happen next?

I am fascinated by the weather in all honesty. The town near where I live had a 'once in 100 year flood' a few years ago, then promptly had another on a similar scale within 6 years.

It's definitely getting warmer and wetter.

This too;

It's definitely getting warmer and wetter.
I feel like the recent weather really does feel like it's getting warmer, at least in the midlands and up north
It's somewhat lovely to be having a nice summer (despite the bloody humidity) but it really does not feel normal. Sure, it didn't rain 24/7 the entire summer but the weather used to be much milder in general

I think because we don't get much extreme weather in the UK people tend to not pay attention to it around the world

I think we will eventually though. Look at what's happening in Germany. Parts of London had flooding the other day too. I did read a couple years back that Southern Europe would get more and more droughts, and northern Europe would get more flooding.

And colder and dryer, all these records being broken that were only broken the year before

I wonder how much of the current migration is about places becoming increasingly difficult to live in? This can only increase in the years to come.

I agree but we've had bad flooding all over. It stays in the news for a bit then vanishes. We've never had rain to that level and I think people just swoop things out of their mind because of 24/7 news
