Vigil - BBC

They should have sent her on to the sub. She's more sensible, calmer and knows how to obey orders. She's as good a detective as DI Silva and wouldn't run around, getting in the way and make hysterical accusations.

I was starting to think this during the last episode. I love and v much fancy Suranne Jones, but just find Kirsten much more compelling and fun to watch. I fully empathise with Silva, I spend half my life dealing with SSRI/SNRI withdrawals cos I'm disorganised and called it as a plot point the second she was told she had to stay onboard, but her rushing to the captain every time there's a Navy Problem is getting tiring, as are the constant flashbacks. We get that they've got history, it was obvious from the get-go, but we don't need to see them getting together and prancing round, as adorable it is. We know Amy is fucked up from the accident and it would obviously affect her relationship with Kirsten, but god it feels like padding at the moment. I felt my mood drop when the action switched back to the sub in this episode, love Kirsten and Angry Scottish Policeman as a team but Amy makes me want to yell at the TV, keep some cards close to your chest love or you're gonna get bumped off next.

That said I'll still watch the last episodes and then undoubtedly rewatch it to spot stuff I've missed, because I am a fickle woman.

Interesting article in next week's Radio Times about designing and building the Vigil set. It took three and a half months and was a hell of a job because plans and pictures of the interior of a Trident sub. are secret. Also they had to take into account the need to accommodate cameras and lights as well as actors.

Even That was more far interesting than the first 50 mins of Sunday’s episode👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😂

Not going to lie, haven’t got the foggiest what the hell is going on

You’re not alone in that! For me, it’s become a bit of an ordeal getting through each episode. I’ll see it through to the end because I’m bloody-minded and won’t let it beat me. But Christ, I really don’t care about any single person or plot point in this entire thing!

I think it would make it easier to follow if they didn't keep interrupting the actual storyline with romantic flashbacks, which just hold up the action.

And which are cringe-inducingly badly acted.

Suranne J’s switch from drunken giggling to serious ‘I’m going to kiss you now even though I’m not sure if I should’ face was awful!

Just catching up on the latest episode. Husband made a good point in that it seems like a giant game of "Among Us". Who is the impostor? Who is going round killing people? Who is sabotaging the ship? (Sorry to anyone who doesn't have children who are obsessed with this game!).

Not just children, my friends and I love it and we’re in our thirties 🤣

Haha I had the same thought watching the latest episode!

I think the Russian Spy is Burke’s replacement (Doward?) who wouldn’t talk to Suranne and is always lurking around listening in. But maybe he’s too obvious.

But Burke was killed before he came on board so unless there are 2 spies?

Is he the really incompetent one who keeps missing trawlers and cruise ships on the sonar thing? I'd like to think if a spy was going to be sent in, they could at least be competent at their "real job" as he keeps drawing attention to himself by being utterly Shite at his job.

I'm thinking the woman who was there at the start may be involved. I think she was with Burke in episode 1 and is also in scenes with the incompetent man when he keeps missing things.

I think the chef was blackmailed to kill Craig Burke with poison (possibly his food). She was so upset when he was found dead because of the guilt. The Russians offered to get her son out of the Indonesian jail if she killed Craig Burke.

There must be Russian spies everywhere. I mean, the hot intelligence guy said as much. They wanted Craig Burke dead so his replacement could come on the ship - the Russian spy.

The last encrypted image was sent before Vigil departed and my assumption is it was deliberate in order to make it look like it was one of the original crew members.

I guess we will find out soon enough! I think you’re right though, definitely one of them!

Still liking this show but agree with all the comments about DCI Silva being a bit annoying with a strategy of getting in the way as much as possible and annoying everyone.
Stannis (sorry can't remember his name in this, excellent actor though) seems suspect as hell, but perhaps that's a red herring as his discomfort seems almost too obvious.
Liked all the scenes on land this week with Rose Leslie.

So a work colleague brought up an interesting point. She’s been on Paroxetene, the same anti-d that Silva is on and she said that even missing one day can make you incredibly anxious and high/manic almost. Might explain why she’s bouncing round like a pin ball all the time - if she’s rationing the rest of her supply?

How much medication did she take with her? She’s definitely having withdrawals but I thought she only took 3 days with her.

Yes, Paroxetine has a really short half-life, (may even be the shortest out of all the anti-depressants), so the withdrawal effects happen very quickly with it. It's prescribed a lot less than it used to be, quite a heavy anti-depressant.

Interesting. Could definitely be a plot point there then!

I think she only took a short amount but possibly she might have halved the dose or something to eek it out further? Total speculation there.

Seems a tad silly to me when you know you’ll not be getting to a Boots easily if you run out to only take a little bit but hey ho. That’s life!

Isn’t it a *bit* mad that even though the sub is meant to be out at sea for months at a time the doctor only seems to have paracetamol and antihistamine? Reminds me of school!

Also I agree that Silva is properly annoying now. She appears to be just sitting about the place until there’s a catastrophe and suddenly she springs to life demanding to INTERVIEW PEOPLE UNDER CAUTION for no discernible reason.
