The image quality of us open matches I've watched so far is shocking - blury, colours bleeding all over the place, ghosting, stuttering, anything red is almost flashing. I don't think it can all be an Amazon prime issue. A world apart from how good Wimbledon looks.

Why does it look so much worse than other slams?

Few screen shots where you can see the red case bleeding, the pink from the player ghosting and bleeding and how not crisp the white lines are. This is 1080p and looks equally bad on my 4k TV and 4k laptop. Not unwatchable, but far from ideal.

The flashing red 😬

Emma is out already her tennis career has gone to pot over the past year.

The money involved in her sponsorship deals has probably had an impact on how serious she is taking her tennis career

US Open is by far the slam with the strongest commercial vibe and worst ambiance so I'm not shocked their cameras on outside courts are made of potatoes. FO is also kinda pathetic (only got a roof this year??). Wimbledon is by far the best slam in terms of how things are run, and the entire place is immaculate. Players look good in white as well.

For some of the early round outdoor matches they should have just used one fixed camera and sorted it out so it was a clear pic. Rather than do multi shot with a tit picture and shoddy camera work. Even for top 10 seeded players matches it's been technically a mess, while other times has been acceptable. My old phone on a tripod could have streamed a better picture quality.

Even the camera on a wire showing the village often looks crap - wobbling over the place with a blury image.

You just don't get these issues at Wimbledon. Always looks so good and so well done even if it's an outdoor court with low ranked players.

The French open is much easier to get tickets for, but still I wouldn't bother going again as it feels so inferior. Over there the staff are pretty rude like you're an inconvenience where as at Wimbledon the staff are always so polite and nice.

There's plenty of things to be critical of the BBC, but Wimbledon coverage is always brilliant.

And the crowds at the US is often awful - cheering like crazy over a double fault. You wouldn't get such behaviour at Wimbledon.

FO amenities are also pretty rundown and I completely agree with your assessment of the staff there.

USO attracts a really ratchet crowd...a lot of drunk people who barely know tennis, cheer on double faults, and only support American players even if they are behaving appallingly. I still remember them cheering on Serena a few yers back when she was cursing at the lineswoman and threatening her. Zero manners.

It's also the Slam with the most one-hit wonders because it's so late in the season and many players are super tired or injured. I hope Emma wins a Wimbledon eventually.

The matches on the outside courts I watched last night were fine camera-wise (on Eurosport FWIW)

Agree with Paris, as much as I like tennis honestly it feels like a waste of being in Paris. Whereas for Wimbledon it would still totally be worth going just with a picnic to sit in the grounds.

Yep terrible manners there. It's embarrassing hearing them at times.

I used to call people oaps who complained about the white outfit rules at Wimbledon. But I totally get it now. They look a mess all these neon clashing stuff, rarely do they look good which is odd as they're supposed to be an advert. Andy Murray's own clothing brand always looks like something you'd see in a low quality knock-off market.

Those video screens on the big courts piss me off. Yes they're static during play but they're still emmiting light and during slow mo replays they flash like crazy. Surely the tech is out there for them to refresh quicker or to use eink for a static image?

A honey deuce is $22 this year. Of course it's made with grey goose - a pretty new brand that is a good vodka but sells at a high price because it was created for the US market and advertised as top shelf. Grey goose isn't worth the price it commands but people like to overpay for a brand that Nicki Manji is paid to name check in songs  .
I'd totally get one if I was there though - you can't go wrong with a Chambord lemonade and at least you get a nice cup to keep.

The US tickets are also much more expensive than Wimbledon I believe. And with how much more capacity there is on the big courts you're way more likely to get a terrible seat.

The only thing I like with the us open on Amazon is they show the games for each set on the scoring and don't summarise it like the BBC now do.

Maybe I'm just annoyed that the summer is coming to an end, I watch the us open and spend my time complaining how trashy it is 😆. When there's a medical emergency the cameras zoom in and the editors cut to it 😳

As much as I've enjoyed seeing Serena play over the years it did feel time. At least that was a great way to go out and the montage won't be played again.

That crowd was predictably terrible, but all credit for Ajla for handling it so well. She only let her annoyance show very briefly and saw it wasn't a good idea as the boos started.

It would have been hard for any Serena fan to contain themselves given the emotions involved. I don’t see why they shouldn’t shout and cheer for who they support it is the same at all the other slams when a home player is playing.

Serena breathes so much life into the Womens game anytime she plays and makes people feel passion.

Alja is the typical flop player who has never won a title yet raises their level for Serena and flops in the next round she’s not and never will be a star.

Iga, Garcia or Samsonova will win I reckon and Womens tennis is struggling badly right now as there are literally zero stars left. Emma is too crap of a player now to be a star and Osaka has screwed up her career from arrogance and wokeness. Coco may be if she starts winning titles but at this point womens tennis is a mess.

You can't of seen it.

Of course no one is saying they shouldn't cheer who they support. But they did a lot more than just that - applauded every single fault, booed the opponent, virtually silence when the opponent got great shots and kept interrupting play. You wouldn't get such uncouth behaviour elsewhere. There's a big difference between supporting someone and being disrespectful. They weren't tennis fans.
